I bought my tires from a guy who builds offroad racing vans (the one in his driveway was actually pretty sweet), and he was saying that they usually mount tires onto the least wide wheels possible because it makes it harder to break the bead. He had some 35x12.5's mounted on stock ford ranger 7"...

Honestly I would put some sort of grease on the axle shaft splines or some gear oil or antiseize may even help. Those axle housing seals are very delicate sometimes so be very careful when putting the shaft back in to keep from having to replace the seals soon after.
