I don't have an engine hoist or the e12 Torx socket. Don't need either of those to do a head, right?
The coolant is completely mixed in with the oil at this point, which is why I suspect it is a head issue/hydrolocked as it will no longer crank. (Could be something else internally broken...
Thought about pulling the head but went with a use motor with a one year/unlimited mileage warranty. Gonna tear down the old motor once it is out and see what all went on. Maybe stroke that one and have it on standby down the road. If I was just replacing the head I would have done it today...
Have a 97 sport and somewhat new to the whole jeep world and naxja. Guessing either the head or gasket let go a week ago. Have a new/used motor ready to swap in. Local guy wants $900 to just pull the old motor and putte new one in without hooking any of the wiring up. (Trying to cut costs.)...
Just an update. Got the jeep back home finally. 4runner averaged 11.9 gallons a mile on the way back with the jeep in tow.
So I have drained the coolant and oil in prep to pull this motor out. New motor is at the buddy's house. So while the jeep was sitting today I installed the Putco...
Thanks! Welp....sourcing a new/used motor. Developed a bad tick while driving, loss of power and then the smell of coolant burning filled the cabin. Shut it off, smoke was coming from an exhaust leak right at the crossmember. Turned it back on to see if I could tell where the oil was leaking...
Thanks for the input guys. The front end has no doubt seen better days. Planning on ordering all new bushings for front and rear along with new motor and tranny mounts. Was also planning on pulling and pushing on everything in the front to see what is loose.
