It could be there are wires shorting out against the frame. Check the wire harness that runs under the driver's side carpet. Almost all my issues were resolved when I found my 90 XJ was shorting out against the frame there.

If you want to get access to the harness popping out out the Gauge Cluster is very helpful. I am getting about a year and a half on those NAPA switches before something wears out like the dimmer etc. They are a pain to replace. I have been tempted to put in a modern switch in it's place but...

A ricer mechanic I ran into swears by this for the crankcase. The guy that lead me to the ricer mechanic is a kart racer and swears by putting ATF in his gas for his YJ.

Thanks I was curious about that. As for Airbags they were introduced in 95. (Driver's side only) With the "refreshing" of the XJ design in 97 saw the introduction of passenger side airbags.

I converted my 90XJ from R12 to R134. I only replaced the dryer and the o-rings. Good luck.

The side windows in the doors on the other hand are a bit of a giveaway to a later model. My 90 XJ the side windows open but on later ones they didn't.

How did you make out of this? Did the earlier 87-89 servo work?

I was able to reuse my OEM hanger/bracket by drilling new holes for the screws on the side.
