Slide pins? Just a guess. Thinking the first press and the pads are against the rotor... Let up and the piston retracts but the pad stays... second press, the piston travels back and maybe the pedal goes a little lower?
That said, I thought a bad booster gives a hard pedal but less stopping...

Had a similar situation to yours. The culprit was the aux fan relay. Blew the radiator on the trail that day. After replacing essentially the whole cooling system, I hard wired the aux fan to a switch and leave it ON while running trails and sometimes when in traffic on a hot day.

Eeyore is OBDII with coil packs so trying to picture it looking up his skirt isn't helping. Fuel pump relay is open/close, so if the pump is kicking on, maybe it's got a chunk of crud in there, but the coil swap shouldn't impact it.

Aussie's front and rear here. No issues, no regrets. My XJ isn't a commuter but we drove it from Ohio to the Black Hills Jamboree, did great on the trails, toured Yellowstone, then drove back. You get a little tire chirp if hammered around a turn, not to mentio a cool tank-track sound in parking...
