Tightened Belt Tensioner w/o Loosening Pulley Bolt

Will do. Am I looking for damage on the pulley bolt threads or the tensioner threads? If it’s the pulley bolt I’m looking at, should I just pull it or reloosen the tensioner back to where it was first?

    That’s the plan!

    Post-Coolant-Leak-Repair Concerns

Yeah, I suppose the guy who put it on was just used to a looser tension on other vehicles. Tightening it seemed to mostly resolve the squealing but as per my other thread, I neglected to loosen the pulley bolt before tightening it, so now I’m trying to figure out if I screwed up the threads or...

Tightened Belt Tensioner w/o Loosening Pulley Bolt

Hi all, apologies for two threads in as many days. Long and short of it: 2000 4.0l. had squealing in the front after someone else put on a new belt. Worse when hot, better when cold. Figured belt was too loose. Didn't read as much as I should have before I tightened that long skinny sucker...

    Post-Coolant-Leak-Repair Concerns

Hi gang, I'll try to be brief. My partner and I made the (debatably wise) choice to take my 2000 (4.0, 4WD, ~155k odo) from western North Carolina all the way to Anchorage AK and back this summer. Miraculously, we only had one issue along the way: out in BC the temp "gauge" (I'm stuck with the...

How to Confirm Suspected NSS Problem?

Do you mean you run the jumper wire DirtySouthXJ mentioned but just throw a button on along the length? If so, do you run it so the button is in cabin?

How to Confirm Suspected NSS Problem?

Yep, starts every time with the jumper and will go right back to no crank when I remove it. Thanks! Looks like I'll have to invest in a new NSS. Do you/anyone else know if that's a doable swap for a relatively inexperienced home mechanic? I've got about a week and change before I hit the road...

How to Confirm Suspected NSS Problem?

Hi all, I'm preparing for a big road trip in about a week (god help me), so naturally my 2000 XJ has decided now is a good time to start giving me some unexpected trouble. For the past few days, about every other time I try and crank it, all the battery powered stuff clicks on but there's no...

    Blinkers not blinking?

No LEDs or any light mods. I put the key in accessory position and the hazards work fine, all the lights that need to be blinking keep blinking correctly and indefinitely. When I tried the blinkers w/o the engine running they only blinked a few times before turning off entirely, and I couldn't...

    Blinkers not blinking?

Hi all, recently and seemingly simultaneously, *both* my turn signals have started doing something odd. When I turn one on, it might blink on and off regularly a few times, but 9 times out of 10 it will inevitably stop clicking and just freeze on the arrow; instead of alternating between on and...

Cranking gone from bad to worse

Thanks for the response, this is super helpful! I'll keep doing the key-on-key-off thing until I can afford to replace the fuel pump assembly.

Cranking gone from bad to worse

Like I said I've been doing that for a while now, I was just concerned that the worsening noise was evident of a more pressing problem.

Cranking gone from bad to worse

Thanks for the reply. So unless I plan on being ready to replace the injectors I shouldn't bother taking out the fuel rail? Is there anything else up the fuel line I could more easily check, at the very least to narrow down the problem to the injectors? And yeah, I checked the battery and the...
