i had the same problem. what i did is rig up coat hanger to hold open the defrost vent all the time. i live in alaska, so defrost all the time is not a big deal. i took out the radio and a/c controls to reach the heater box, which is right behind the radio. you will see a piece of foam where...
i just got done doing a swap with a 97 using 89 parts. did not have to swap the tcu or any computer at that. i did have to swap the throttle cable going to the tranny and one solenoid in the tranny, not a big deal since i was changing the transmission filter and oil anyways. pretty easy bolt...

just finished a 2wd to 4wd conversion and wondering if there is a way to wire up the indicator lights? converted a 97 with a 242/aw4 setup. the switch on the tcase is electronics, so no vaccum lines to deal with. i'm sure it is just a matter of wiring the switch to the tcu, but how?
what does NSS:dunno: stand for? and so i don't mess this up, i should leave all the boxes where they are. drop the pan and filter on both trannys and then swap electronics.
about to start a 4wd conversion and trying to find out if the tcu for the the transmission in my 97 is the same as the 89 tcu or do i have to swap them?
