iac 3 months since you've cleaned the IAC on a high-mileage XJ? The seal behind that thing likes to leak spewage, Clean it again, takes 10 mins, costs nuthin.

Dirty TB and/or IAC, MAP sensor issue, dirty air filter, TPS is toast-- do a search, you're the zillionth person with this problem...

Sounds like bait and switch.

On the other hand, what happened to good faith? The mechanic, based on his experience could have warned the customer, before looking at it that the price was flat rate, fix or no. Surely the guy knew the thing may have been in alignment but had another issue. By blowing that off, he lost future...

Or you hrmonic balancer is coming apart. Do a search for how to spot that issue. Common problem.
