Will any year XJ/ZJ power steering gear fit any all other XJ/ZJ's? I have an 87 XJ that needs a new steering gear. Thanks

Gas tank FULL or near EMPTY

I can't imagine the angle would change much at all. I would be suprised if 150 lbs of gas would even change the angle by one degree.

    Axle Hop?

Airing down the tires will also help stop axle hop, in my experience.

    replacing water pump???

If it seems like the bolts on the water pump or T-stat housing are overly tight; be very careful taking them out. I turned a $40 do-it-yourself job into a major PITA and a lot more $$$ when some bolts broke off in the block and head. I got two of the broken bolts out myself but had to get...

Out of Round LTB's I'm thinking

If you haven't already, have a tire shop check and see if any of the wheels themselves are bent or 'out of round'. I worked at a tire shop for years and pulled many brand new steel rims out of the box that were bent. Second, find a tire shop that knows what "match balance" means and see if...

    D30 vacuum actuator

I guess you could mount the cable and spring on the passenger side of the dissconnect so that the spring pushed the fork over to engage and the cable pulls to disengage. You would have to do something with the the left overs of the old diaphram. Its worth looking into. Dave

    D30 vacuum actuator

I mountain bike too. Yeah they stretch, but you will NEVER put near that much pull on the cable using it in this way. Like I said, once you go in there and tear apart the dissconnect mechanism you will see that it won't take hardly any pressure to engage the front axle. Once the splines on the...

    D30 vacuum actuator

I really didn't like the bike bike cable in the first place either, but after e-mailing the guy who first did it and asking him how his was holding up, I went ahead and did it. I'm glad I did too. So is my bank account. Once you actually see how simple the dissconnect mechanism is, you realize...

    D30 vacuum actuator

I did this; it costs less than $15 http://home.earthlink.net/~stevenschreiber/jeep/tech/cabledis.htm It works great. Thank you to who ever you are that put your design on the web.

    Whinch or lockers

I'd have to agree with Georgia Mike. If you learn to wheel in an open diff, stock truck you will learn important things like wheel placement, picking a good line, power application, etc. Once you learn all that and become a good driver, the future mods you make will just be that much more...

    20w50 too thick?????

I lived in Tampa for 23 of my 30 years. Since I was 16 and had a car I always used 20w50. There are only around 5-10 days in the winter when the temp gets down near freezing. I never had any bad experiences with that weight oil. Its not uncommon to have temps in the high 70s to low 80s in the...

    A couple general maintence questions...

No timmming belt, just a good old chain. I don't know much about the coil packs. I would assume you don't change them.

.. rear gas tank skid plate,.

Take your bumper off to get inside the frame rail and check it out. It should have what's called a nut strip if its done right. It may be, however, that someone just put some regular nuts up there when they installed the skid plate. ------------Dave

    trans mount

Don't go to the dealer for stuff like this. Your local parts store should have that part for you. I replaced my auto tranny mount a few years back. I don't remember how much it cost but it was less than $50. It only took me 15-20 min to put it in.
