    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

The airbag system is from the 97, I didn't dare try to mix the two.

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

Well I fired it up over the weekend and it started on the first try with no engine error codes. I do have an airbag light on that I will need to track down but that might be the missing sensor on the front of the jeep behind the front bumper.

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

I am about done with the swap and have learned a lot about the transition years of 96-97. I was able to find a 97 harness that didn't have a bunch of cut off connectors so I bought that one. I did buy a 98 harness only to find out there were a lot of connector changes. I swapped the wiring...

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

I found a 97-01 NSS and connector so I should have what I need to make the 96 AW4 work with the 97. I am having trouble finding a 96 wiring diagram that shows the transmission wiring. Does anyone have one or a link to the wiring diagram ?

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

Well I guess I could splice the 96 tranny connectors into the 97 harness if I can find the two wiring diagrams. This might be a good option since the guy who parted out the 97 was lazy and cut off the tranny connectors.

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

Well I checked the date on the 96 and it is one of the early 96 models and the transmission connectors don't look anything like the 97 connectors and there is actually one more connector than the 97. Does anyone know how difficult it might be to swap the wiring harness in the AW4 to a 97...

    96 XJ blend with a 97 questions

I am trying to help my daughter out with her 96 XJ. It has a low mileage drive train but a very rusty body. I found a 97 body that came out of Vegas that is very rust free but was parted out. I am planning on swapping the entire 96 drive train into the 97. I have done a fair amount of searching...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

We took it in for inspection and emissions testing and came back with interresting results. It passed every test but the numbers from the emissions test were too good to be true. They spent a long time in the emissions bay because I think they had trouble believing the numbers, I know I do. The...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

Well there was probably a few gallons of it still in the tank then I added a bunch of new stuff. I did go out and start it every so often and it always ran fine at idle. I found some of the BG44K at a NAPA store and put it in after I topped off the tank with Chevron Premium. I did end up...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

I had the injectors professionally cleaned but afterwards the jeep sat for over a year waiting on paint and other stuff, maybe one or more got gummed up. I need to find where to buy the BG44k stuff. I looked at the manufacturers web site and they don't have a local distributor here in Utah. I'll...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

I'm hoping it is ping and not a bearing. The engine only has 19K miles on it so I doubt carbon build up. I'll have to try a tank of the expensive stuff. Maybe the octane booster doesn't really work. I drove it in to work today and it ran well, pinged if I lugged it down, but if I accelerated...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

Tonight I tried several tests, I pulled the first three plug wires off but there was no change in the knock. I'll try the other three. I swapped the only sensor that hasn't been checked (exhaust sensor) with no change. I hooked up a cold coolant sensor after the engine was warm and it didn't run...

    Rod knock or pre-ignition in 4.0 ?

I have transplanted a 99 4.0l jeep tj motor into my 84 cj8. It runs great when it is cold but once it warms up it pings or knocks on acceleration. It will do it without any load on the engine but worse under load. I have swapped out or tested the MAP, MAT, and the TPS sensors, checked fuel rail...

    pulling d-44 carrier

My front 44 came out fairly easy but the rear gave me trouble. I tried the two crowbar method and it didn't work, so I put one of the crowbars between the case and one of the ring bolts so it wouldn't move then I rotated the pinion yoke with a pipe wrench and it came right out. Dave
