Is the compresor on the 96 hard wired? I had the same stuation a month or so ago and just unpluged the compresor and ran the AC. Fan on, compresor off.

When using a lubracant on a bolt it take less torque to obtain the load need to hold whatever it is together because there is less friction than if the bolt was dry. The nut is still being forced to the same position on the bolt but it is easier to get it there. Easy on Easy off.

I really like the idea for a tech day as well and would show up. My geers are done but need to tackle other front end compoents in the near future. Ideas for other tech days I would love to see would be one on fender trimming and maybe one on a long arm lift install.
push button engages cruiseand when engaged it is the coast. Slide switch truns it on one click towards the stearing collum. another push toward the stearing collum will excelerate when engaged and after disengaged will resume the last set speed.

This exact thing happen to me in moab a few weeks ago. It ended up being a bad barring in one of the pulleys and finally ceased on the trail. Find the culprit pulley and replace it asap. You just need to get under the hood and listen carefully to which one is making the noise. mine ended up...
