You have the auto so it's the AW-4. If you have a part time and full time 4wd selections on your transfer case selector you have the NP242. You can look at the diff cover on the axles to determine which ones you have.

It could be the system is low on gas. Have you had it charged recently or ever? If there is a low pressure detected in the system the compressor clutch will disengage. It's possible there is enough gas in the system to start cooling but not maintain it. It also might be the compressor clutch...
