    Bad gas mileage 10-11 MPG

I didn't see it mentioned, pull the vacuum line to the fuel pressure reg. These are known to slowly lose the diaphragm and start leaking into the vacuum line. If it's gone you will have raw fuel in the line. Good luck getting it figured out!

Clunk/lurch into Drive, but not Reverse

After watching your vids, defiantly in the diff. I know you did a static test to get your 4.5* but to me it looked like a little more than that. Combo of r & p plus side gears worn? You might have play in the thru shaft too. Found it interesting that it would back off a little bit when put into...

    Welded or Locked?

Have a lunch box, but only snow I see with the XJ is up on the pass but in my 150, I have a Detroit Locker and a Trutrac for the rear, Trutrac up front. Detroit was for Paragon & what is now Rausch Creek (Tower City/Tremont). For winter driving down in the "flatlands" the Trutrac was dropped in...

Roll pin or drilled out broken cross pin bolt

Oh, I think I had to have it in a certain position to actually push it thru or it would have hit the housing, been a long time though so again, sorry I don't really remember. The roll pin itself I got locally at a fastener shop in Vegas, maybe could have used the old one but for a few cents why...

Roll pin or drilled out broken cross pin bolt

Sorry, can't remember where I got them, most likely would have been Amazon though. Don't think I could find them at HF or Sears. I didn't have to pull the carrier or unbolt the ring to get it out when I did an Aussie lunch box, just needed the longer punch. But, mine is truly a non c-clip. If...

Roll pin or drilled out broken cross pin bolt

Looks like the roll pin in my '89 non c-clip. I did have to get a longer punch to get it out though, I am thinking it is about 5 or 6" until it tapers out. My "normal" drift punches were just a bit short to actually drive it out and mine was in there tight.

Auto Shutdown Relay on a 1992 xj

Checked the ground for the CPS in the wire bundle? Cruiser54 has a great write up of where to find this one. It has I think 3 grounds that are really very poorly spliced/crimped. Have a Renix but think yours has the same, mine where very bad with corrosion. No issues as such but would have...

Not Your Average Cooling System Problem

Have you pressure tested the cooling system? Might not be holding, never had any luck with alum aftermarket rads. Always seemed to leak at the tube/tank and lose pressure. Smallest of leak would cause mine to get hot but wouldn't drop the coolant level much at all.

    89’ 4.0 Xj rough idle/missing under acceleration

Along with what has already been mentioned, with the low/fluctuating vacuum reading you may have the egr with a torn diaphragm or vacuum leak in the control circuit. When you get it running again and it starts it's surging thing warm, watch the stem of the egr, if it's moving in and out...

Auto Shutdown Relay on a 1992 xj

Do you have the test port on the rail? If you do you can take a rag or paper towel and push the valve to see if you have pressure. Not that much will come out just don't be smokin' or have any open flame when you do it, sorry but had to add the disclaimer! If not, you most likely found your...

    New to me renix build

About 15 yrs ago, I had my '89 rebuilt. Machine shop got the engine in pieces, we disassembled. Reused the crank & rods, bored 40 over, decked and balanced. Shop supplied bearings, pistons, rings, new stock cam and most of the gaskets. They also assembled the heads with new valves & springs...

Hood vents, scoops etc. Heat extraction

Just going to throw this out there, on an 89 4.0 AW4 I had the issue. I'm at 2500' and when going up to the pass at 7500' I would have to turn off the a/c and sometimes stop & open the hood with conditions of 110*+ with a tailwind. Used the LaBaron louvers and they defiantly helped but a/c would...
