I prefer an open differential on icy roads. Lateral stability is gone if both rear tires are spinning. On my XJ I travel with both diffs open and in full time four wheel drive. Very stable that way. I can always lock up if needed. I have a 242 transfer case with ARBs...
After installing my lift, I called Tom Woods for the SYE and the drive shaft. They told me what to measure and to call them back. I did the measurements and they sold me the angle shim I needed.
True, my ARB in cab compressor is not whisper quiet however, unless there is an air leak it rarely runs and then only for a few seconds. Normally it will run for a few seconds only after a couple of wheeling breaks where I have shut off the engine 2-3 times. It does wake up the passenger...
