I don't think I've seen a Chevron station in years. I did try an engine additive. No help, but didn't specifically try Seafoam. Thanks for the replies. I found a re-manufactured at Napa for about $65 if you turn in the old starter. Not bad.

No check engine light. Now my starter needs to be replaced. I trust this mechanic. He's a friend. Btw, how much should a starter be?

Intermittently, my 97 XJ runs very rough, misfiring, and low idle. I had my mechanic change the plugs, wires and distributor cap, but it is still is running rough at times. Sometimes it runs fine. He is going to try the coil next. Any suggestions?

I have a 97 XJ - stock. I recently had a CROK steering brace installed and had the frame welded where necessary. Prior to the installation, I couldn't go over 60 without a lot of shaking through the steering wheel. Now, it is much better, but when I go over 70, I still get the shaking...

Already my mech pulled the front driveshaft. Runs quieter now, but did nothing for the shimmy.

Thanks, you just saved me some bucks. Will put it up on my mechanics lift and see if there is anything obvious. If your a mechanic and can't figure it out, I have little to no chance. :(

Called a local Firestone store and they do Road Force balancing for $52. If that fixes it, I would be ecstatic. Thanks for the idea.

Having exactly the same problem with my 97 XJ. Had wheel alignment, had wheels balance twice, added a CROK steering brace and welded the frame and it still vibrates between 60-70. Did you check to see if the frame is cracked around the steering box? Not that it helped me.

The shaking to me, is not noticeable until I reach 60mph, then it gets worse going to 70. It has nothing to do with hitting a bump. The shaking or better the vibration feels like a strong vibrator (not the kind you're thinking!!!) It is certainly annoying enough not to want to drive over 60 for...

Thanks for the offer, chedisme. I still have a problem. I am pretty sure this Jeep was in an accident before I bought it. Body guy said that was why the frame was a little bent and cracked by the steering box. Before I had it fixed, I would get shaking thru the steering wheel when going over...

I still haven't found anyone to install the C-ROK brace. There must be someone in the north Jersey area who has some experience with this. I also need a welder to weld the crack. Anyone?
