    Fan Clutch?

I don't think so. usually when the fan clutch fails it fails "locked", I'm guessing you're having overheat issues? I would check your cooling system.

Need help identifying high pitched whistling noise

If it's not really tied to road speed, I would suspect something in the engine bay. Out of curiousity I'm kinda thinking you should check your mech fan, pretty easy turn car off, open hood, move fan back and forth with fingers. it should move in a mushy fashion with a little bit of resistance...

    Need parts advice

I've made something of a cottage industry tearing alarms and remote starts out of all variety of vehicles. I totally understand why they are made, and what they are good for. However in the name of "security" many shops do really bad jobs of covering up where things are installed that results in...

Starting Jeep after 2 years standing

I've done this a few times to pump all the gas out of wrecked cars. In those cases, I don't care about the lines, so I'll just cut them with EMT shears. and I'll energize the fuel pump using a small gel-cell and some vampire clips.

Starting Jeep after 2 years standing

I wouldn't go down the filler neck unless you have some kind of pump to do it, siphon doesn't really work all that well. I would suggest pulling the fuel filter and attaching some hose like I posted, as this way you're using the fuel pump which is going to be a much better way of pumping it out.

    1989 MJ. 1100-1700RPM hesitation

Ok, I think I may have a strong suggestion for you, as I had the same issue a few years ago: Start out by checking pressure on the fuel rail, IIRC it should be about 40PSI, if it's less than this that's your problem. Generally what happens here, is the tube that connects the fuel pump to the...

Starting Jeep after 2 years standing

Unless the motor was exposed to the elements I just think getting some fresh fuel into it is probably more important. Pull the fuel filter (before you do anything else) and hook up a drain hose to a catch can (this will need to take all the gas you have in the tank, so may require 1-2 gas cans...

Renix Pinging, Cold start rumble, and over-all emissions maintenance

Ok, so after almost 2 months I found the problem.... I put it in 4-full time (NP242 transfer case) to get through some unpleasant road conditions, and noticed a lot of vibration and whirring noise. A familiar vibration and whirring noise, the kind of vibration and whirring noise that comes from...

    Renix CPS wiring question

Generally, if there's an issue with the CPS, it's either going to be a no-start or it's not an issue. Bypassing the C101, and a lot of other things are sometimes required. Frankly anything dealing with the CPS, and that whole wiring harness (Mine's a 90) is my least favorite issue to have on the...

What can cause wet passenger side carpet?

If the heat comes and goes, that's got me thinking heater core... also if everything else was all rotted out, it's likely that this car wasn't well cared for. I know when I got mine, even though the vehicle was babied quite a bit, I had to flush the heater core to get 20 years of junk out of it...

Renix Pinging, Cold start rumble, and over-all emissions maintenance

Ok, so got around to doing a bunch of maintenance and wanted to post a follow up... So new motormounts installed, did some clean up and pro-active hose replacement. That said, I've been running 1qt of MMO in the engine on and off since i've owned it, added more today. Anyways on a "cold...

Renix Pinging, Cold start rumble, and over-all emissions maintenance

So I pulled the O2 Sensor connector (disconnected) and the pinging is still there... so probably a bad O2 sensor at the last. I'm not sure what plugs I currently have in it, IIRC I usually run the stock autolite plug. I don't tend to do very many short trips on a regular basis, I know sometimes...

Renix Pinging, Cold start rumble, and over-all emissions maintenance

Alaskan, I typically do a seafoam treatment before every oil change, and change religiously at about 5K, I also change oil seasonally, running 5W-40 in the summer, and 0W30 in winter. The lifter charge may be an issue, I'll look into that and maybe pop the valve cover (which I havn't done in a...

    Power Loss at 55 mph

Also, don't forget to check connections to the battery... Some years ago I got stuck in denver for 2 weeks when my problem was the wires inside the battery terminal (the ones that connect the clamp to the wiring harness) had corroded and were making a bad connection.

HVAC vent to defrost uphill, cruise works

This was always a big issue for the older renix XJ's. Generally it was being caused by not enough vacuum. (FYI, when you're running at high RPM under load, you get less vacuum) probably why you mentioned the cruise working ok. The vacuum reservoirs usually have different sides used for...
