Thanks for the advice. Got the new alternator in, and one of the brake lights started working again. Def didn't expect that. I put in new lights after the alternator and everything seems to be working now. Hope things stay that way for a while.
96 XJ here. I'm just finding two problems at once, and I'm trying to find out if they could be related, as they're both electrical. I just noticed my GEN light is coming on (dash alt meter is way down), and testing at the local parts store shows my alternator has a bad diode. At the same...
Yesterday I noticed my GEN dash light on after I had been sitting still w/ engine at idle and AC on for about 5 mins. It went off as soon as I hit the gas and got going again, but I noticed my dash volt meter was reading about 13.5V. I've also noticed a slightly longer crank time for the...
Sticker shock! Haaaa :) Great pun. Too bad on the pictures missing in the thread there. I didn't get any of the pictures when I pulled it up. By the responses it seems like a real looker. Not surprised thought as that was way back in ow-twelve.
Just being stickers and easy to...
Doing my usual spring spruce-up on the old 96er (XJ) and I'm finally getting to refreshing the decals all the way round. After 30 years it's time for some love. I've done some fair searching, including ebay, and I haven't had any luck finding this one. I'm seeing versions where the white part...
75SV1...Yes! That's the only part I left out. Even if you have only a few degrees of turn, working back and forth is a great way to gradually break up the crystals at either limit of the bolt's range or rotation.
This stuff is so dang hard and thick I leaning away from polishing compound. My paint looks great and I don't have much experience with it. I'd hate to make a dull spot like I did on another car using the decal wheel you mentioned Rob. I probably leaned into it too much but once bitten twice...
Rob. I treat a stuck bolt like treating a cold. I use a few different 'natural remedies' and they each do their own significant part. I've heard that some bolts can be so thoroughly rusted that penetrating oil may not actually penetrate until after the joint is cracked, so that's something to...
I've been letting some original Goo Gone formula sit on this for a couple nights now and it doesn't seem to be touching it at all. Any suggestions for a better solvent/whatever to get this gunk off before I put the new decal on?
Well, this stubborn bolt has made for one heck of a success story. After numerous heating and cooling cycles, with PB applied in between, the nut finally loosened from a very hard lock. To pay back for the help, I'll give some golden advice here that I've rarely ever seen mentioned. Dousing a...
That's exactly what I'm gonna have to do jhenke.
I haven't seen any of these newer design grease retention cups yet, and I want to make sure I didn't receive a defective replacement track bar. Is the rubber cup I'm seeing separated in the first pic supposed to 'seal' up and sit closer to the...
I developed a bit of death wobble in the old 96er recently and traced it to the driver side connection of my track bar, so I'm in the middle of getting it out. I've been soaking the passenger side connection in the picture below with PB for a while now, and it's still distressingly hard to...
I've got a 02 Ford Taurus with a 'blown' heat a/c blower motor that needs replacing, and I was wondering if there are any model/part suggestions.
Should I angle for an OEM part, or is there any manufacturer brand I should look out for, or avoid?
Thanks.
