    Humming noise at all speeds

Yeah, I guess. There is no way to truly get some cost effective maintenance. Plus it would eliminate the problems. Well if it persists, I will probably start a new thread about all of it with more trouble shooting steps. I appreciate your help!

    Humming noise at all speeds

I'll try to get it checked tomorrow, are there any limits to which it's acceptable for play? so if only 1 side is bad I don't have to replace both? or are they like springs and shit where you have to do both sides or it gets lop sided or something?

    Humming noise at all speeds

Alright, I think I got the jist of how to do it. I just wiggle it without turning the wheels pretty much? Are these things I have to replace on both sides or can I just do 1 side? I can't get to it today. I probably have to replace all the joints, bushings, and bearings since I got the axle...

    Humming noise at all speeds

What do you mean with 3 and 9 o clock positions? what am I turning or looking for play in? where are the hub bearings? I only know what simple things I've done so far. When it comes to troubleshooting or electrics, I'm lost in the sauce. The humming is louder and higher pitch the faster I go...

    Humming noise at all speeds

Is there a test I can do to test the hub bearings? The tires are low on tread and that tire is in the rear driver side its chewed up in the sense that it looks like someone cut some extra lines into it because it got shoved into the fender and that cut it up a little while I was driving

    Humming noise at all speeds

So I got myself a humming at all speeds and I don't know where it's coming from. I got a 2000 XJ sport 4.0L 4WD with HD leaf packs in the rear, front axle swap to a HP dana 30 with 3.55 gears off a 1997. teraflex 2" BB and an OME tcase drop for 2-2.5 inch lifts. I just put +2 skyjacker shocks in...

    Low to High Pinion

I didn't reset the pinion angle. I only added the Teraflex 2" Budget Boost. I did throw some skyjacker shocks in the front to accommodate for those two inches. I have yet to put the rear ones in. I am looking at the Old Man Emu Tcase lowering kit from quadratec to solve the pinion in the rear. I...

    Low to High Pinion

That burning smell went away, I'm guessing that was just fluids that sprayed when I bled the brakes or oil that got spilled, My main thing was vibes. I just dropped the drive shaft and thought I'd check for updates before heading for a test run. I didn't think the rotors could cause vibes. their...

    Low to High Pinion

So if all I have to do is swap rotors from a 97 XJ, all these front end vibes go away? That would be amazing. I am a hard learner, I usually learn the hard way on everything

    Low to High Pinion

the only thing I have changed on the new axle is I took the rotors from my 00 axle (because they were not junk) and replaced the rotors on the 97 (the ones that came with it were far more rusted) other than that it's a 97 high pinion axle. How would that 1/8 of an inch cause binding? from what...

    Low to High Pinion

The brakes right now work like they did before I swapped the axle. Are these bearings applicable to all XJ's of those years? I've been reading of a lot of changes that aren't incorporated on all jeeps that are said to have come out on that year. The rotors as far as I can tell are just casted...

    Low to High Pinion

i used the calipers off of the original axle and duralast gold pads, whatever their best pads are. and I don't know what unit bearings are.

    Low to High Pinion

I haven't tried removing the drive shaft actually. I got the alignment, I bled the brakes normally and I don't get that burning smell anymore. I balanced the tires as well. I suppose I can drop the front drive shaft and if it stops, then it's U-joints? it doesn't matter if I'm using a rear low...

    Low to High Pinion

I'm getting the alignment tomorrow, I'll post on how it goes if it persists then.

    Low to High Pinion

I recently switched my front axle from a low pinion Dana 30 with 3:55 Gears which came stock on my '00 XJ Sport to a High Pinion Dana 30 3:55 Gear off of a '97 XJ Country. I am now getting bad vibrations and a burning smell when I go over 45 mph. The differential has fluids. It needs an...
