Try squeezing the MAP sensor and checkthe small vac hose to it. If that doesnt work, check the 'cold start solenoid' - make sure its plugged in. Did you clean that too?
On my 89 i was getting around 15, and it dropped to 8 or less ughh. It seemed to be a gummy cold start solenoid. Cleaned the throttle boddy and it was better but also found a leaky vaac to the MAP sensor. Got 18 on a long trip...so it worked 4 me..good luck

My knowledge of the cruise control system is limited but I'm used toseeing a pick up located somewhere on a drive shaft....where is it on an XJ 89? Tranny? any advice greatly received!
For $500 I purchased a running, quite strong XJ, so I'm happy. Being in CA, all it took was a new O2 sensor to pass smog...anyway.....There is a square panel above the cig lighter that is below the clock. what on earth is it supposed to do - if anything? First time poster, lifelong listener lol...
