    Block Heater Installation

Guys, these are the kind of responses that even though don't directly relate to what I have, do offer lots of information and assistance. The links were helpful (I already had read two of them in my search). The instructions say to use the block drain plug and the heater line that feeds the...

    Block Heater Installation

lloyd, thanks for the reply. I went with the tank type because it circulates the coolant to warm the entire engine. Installing this thing is not really hard, just a pita and I was hoping that someone might have done one already and be able to provide some advise. No biggie. I'll get it figured...

    Block Heater Installation

First, I did do a search. Second, the unit I bought has a thermal cutout for high temperature (not in water). Third, the tank type of heater I have was not discussed, only freeze plug, dipstick and magnetic types were discussed. Please, if you know there was a thread, then by all means help a...

    Block Heater Installation

I just bought a ZeroStart 1000 watt tank type block heater for my '98 XJ 4.0 and judging by the instructions and where everything needs to go, I am at a loss here. The heater lines are on the passenger side, the block drains and lower radiator hose are on the drivers side. A hose would have to...

    Transmission Range Selector Switch?

The nuetral safety switch is about $250! I have the same problem with my '98 XJ and will be pulling it to clean it out. You may have trouble with your backup lights as well.

    Dynomax Thrush Turbo Muffler?

I am running a DynoMax catback system in my '98 XJ. Works rather well and is not loud. Has a nice tone at idle. Not sure if it uses the same model muffler you posted.

    Lousy defroster

It's a 1998 Sport. It will melt the ice fine at slower speeds, but above 35 or so it will ice up around the edges of the windshield. It has always been this way. There is plenty of air coming from the defroster ducts, just doesn't seem that the ducts are long enough to reach the edges.

    Lousy defroster

I know the A/C needs to work to clear the fog. I am wondering about ice as I had asked. The windshield ices up around the edges to about 3" in.

No one else has this problem?

    Lousy defroster

Well I'd like to know if anyone has come up with a way to keep the edges of their XJ windshield clear of ice. Coming home from the movies this evening it was snowing and I remembered that I wanted to post this awhile ago. Driving like this is a real pain! With the defroster and temp on high, it...

    Blown engine?

Pull the valve cover (gaskets are cheap) and check to make sure all the valve stems are there. You might have dropped a valve (keepers came off, valve stuck in cylinder or bent in guide and hitting piston).

    Failed Emmissions Test Help

New Jersey does the same thing with '98 and newer vehicles. Makes life easy for me because my check engine light is on (catylitic convertor efficency below specified limits). I use my scanner/code clear unit to clear the codes. NJ does allow two sensors to be "Not ready". As posted above, a...

    quick cat question

My '98 MIL/Check engine light stays on with the message "Catalytic Convertor Efficiency Below Specified Limits". This is due to the cat having some internal material removed. I plan on replacing it at some point. NJ uses the computer for '98 and newer vehicles and allows two sensors to be "Not...
