I kept smelling gas and finally found my leak.
There's a steel fuel line that goes from the pressure regulator on the fuel rail, and runs through a clamp attached to the intake under that vacuum/ccv disconnect plug. The steel line is cracked inside that clamp

to figure out the polarity of the speaker wires you can take two wires that are going to the same speaker and touch them to the ends of a C or D cell battery. If you have the polarity right the speaker cone will push out. Backwards it will pull in.

Mine did exactly the same thing. It was just a short in the left taillight wiring harness where some butcher before me had tried to splice in a trailer plug.
If I remember correctly, the front parking lights are on that fuse too.

Somewhere on there they list the adapter plug you would need for your stock stereo plug. Just check the part number for the Stratus and the XJ. If they're the same it should work.
