Bolting the AW4 Transmission Pan Back Up...

I ended up getting the pan back in, laying a thin bead of MOPAR Silicone RTV around the entire pan, laying the rubber gasket, lightly pushing it down all around with my fingers, then sat it and loosely put all the bolts in. Then went around and torqued them from one end to the other in a circle...

Bolting the AW4 Transmission Pan Back Up...

I'd much rather NOT use RTV just because of the mess it makes putting it on and taking it off. Now I can't get the tranny pan to sit comfortably on the trans. Can someone tell me where that 4" dipstick tube routes around them 2 hard lines? Between or on either side? It's fitting at some...

    Having problem with idle.

I have been having idle purges, while in drive. I'll be sitting at a traffic light, or at a stop sign and the idle will be higher than normal, if I let off the gas, it takes off on it's own. If I put the Jeep in park, neutral, it will shoot up to a steady 1500-1800 RPM and won't come back down...

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

How I can explain it best is If I grab my wheel, and rotate it slowly, there is about an inch of the wheel movement before the rear driveshaft starts to spin. And I think that's the play I am seeing.

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

Okay, pulled the cover, cleaned everything up and looked into it. I have a bit of play in the center of the locker, where the cross shaft is. Both sides of the axle shafts (?) and the top and bottom of the locker are all moving with play, especially that shaft. It's moving I'd say a little under...

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

Would it be worth pulling the rear shaft and taking it for a slow ride in 4wd? Just to see if maybe the rear DS is binding up?

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

It's a grinding and a clunk, I'm sorry if I'm being too general, I just want input from anyone who's been there, ya know?

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

I plan on going long arms soon, and for the time being I will be getting spring clamps. Do you think any of that has anything to do with the sound coming from the rear? I had a friend look at the DS while it was happening and he said he saw nothing but the rear tires jumping.

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

I've had the Jeep since april-may, and it came with the locker. I also have to list the other faults, which may add to my problem: - No spring clamps on leafs w/ AAL/1" blocks - Lower control arms are aftermarket and the bushings are SHOT (In reverse, I can hit the brakes rapidly and they clunk...

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

If it was a SERIOUS problem, the noise would be much worse? It's only a grinding when the wheel is turned slightly, not when it's straight or full cut :dunno:

    Problem with a noisy 8.25"...

Haven't dropped the rear diff cover yet, no light until tomorrow, and hardly anytime, infact I am scared to now. 99XJ 8.25 w/ auburn, 6" with 32's. I am getting a clunk that has increased in volume within the past few weeks. It only really happens when I turn left or right, under 10 mph. Gets...
