    Shutter at RPM

At a loss. Mounted the transmission back up to the engine gently. Tc spun freely enough for me to use a screwdriver to line up the threads with the holes on the flex plate... when you tighten the torque converter bolts the engine gets really stiff...

    Shutter at RPM

Wheel chock moved while I was putting the engine in and the weight of the trans was all on that shaft for a moment. Guessing it happened then.

    Shutter at RPM

I pulled the transmission today. It is the rod on the end of the torque converter. It is slightly bent. Rock auto lists two different torque converters. Part numbers 783, and TO28. Going off the pictures my torque converter looks like the TO28. Not sure if you or anyone else knows the difference.

Dealer or Rock Auto for Flex Plate?

I've heard from some of the renix people that none of the flex plates for those particular years are even correct. I will definitely compare closely. They have a variety of options. Considering the most expensive one Pioneer FRA-530. Hopefully the higher price means higher quality in this case

Dealer or Rock Auto for Flex Plate?

Going to be changing the flex plate on my 1998 xj. Pulling the trans is a job I only want to do once. Where can I get the best quality new flex plate?

98 XJ 4.0 4wd lifted 3.5" Hi all, Recently swapped out my very high mileage 4.0 for a lower mileage one since the machine shops wanted 6k to rebuild mine. The engine runs great, someone was changing the oil every 2k it's a gem. Have driven it my 30 min each way commute for 2 weeks now and...

    1998 TJ/XJ Block

Thank you both for your helpful comments. Hopeful to pick up the tj motor this weekend. I'll install and test before I put gaskets, freeze plugs and paint into the new donor motor of course

    1998 TJ/XJ Block

Hi all, Looking to put a new 4.0 in my 98 XJ. I found a donor from a 98 TJ. To the best of my knowledge, I would need to use my motor mounts and oil filler adapter, the rest is all the same. Is this correct? Or is this not so much of a direct swap. Thank you

    98 4.0 vacuum line

I stand corrected it does not go there. It goes into the dash to the vents. That's an easy splice. Hopefully that's what's causing the jeep to surge and idle so badly Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

    98 4.0 vacuum line

Arrived home from my honeymoon, got in the jeep and it was running badly. Found the culprit. Does anyone know where I could get an oem replacement for the entire line? I'd prefer to not have to mess around making something from a kit as it's winter. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

    Washer pumps not working

Checked for power, it had power. Replaced the pumps and all is well! FYI for those that may be referencing this in the future, you don't need to remove the wheel well lining to gain access. Just pull it back on the bottom by the bumper gently and you'll have plenty of room to see and reach...

    Washer pumps not working

I use the rainx orange stuff. I dont mix anything. I use that stuff in all my vehicles. When I try to use the pump it doesnt make a single sound, silent. I could pull back the wheel well lining, if theres enough crap to gum up the pumps maybe I will see evidence of that at the bottom of the...

Yes, they work. As does the little adjuster for intermittent frequency

    Washer pumps not working

Hi all, hopefully this is the last of the head scratchers for the year here in what is now frozen MA. So my 98 xj no longer has functioning windshield washer pumps. From what I understand, the fuse for the two pumps also runs the horn and wipers which both work. The ground for the pumps is...

Blinkers work but hazards do not

Switch turned out to be dirty. Was less touchy before but now wiggling the switch makes them work. So I will be cleaning it. Thanks!
