I had the same problem when I changed my shoes also. Took some playing around with the threaded adjuster that XJJeepLess talks about. Those systems are self adjusting so you can set it up so the drums slide on nice and easy. Than I heard the best why to adjust them is to go in reverse(15mph)...
Don't lift that Jeep. Buy an older one to turn into a toy. Your 01 XJ is too new and too few miles to start to lift when you are in college and money is tight. Wait til you are out of college. My roomate did the same thing you are talking about and ended up buying a car as a DD because gas...
Yeah the 2.8L was a major disappointment. Had one in my 86 Cherokee. Way under powered. I have a 96 Cherokee with the 4.0, lots more power and believe it or not much better fuel economy between 22-24 on the highway. You will need to regear if you plan on using that as a DD with any increase...
Measure it yourself. I know the bolts that hold the bushings in are tough to get at the nut side because it is in the frame of the unabody, but try to spray them with penatrating oil it will make the job much easy. I'm sure you will be able to do the repair yourself. Good Luck

All I have to say is it sounds like a bad idea. Sharp corners cause stress concentrations. I would not recommend it. I would not recommend creating stress concentrations in your driveshaft.

I just wanted to weigh in one more time about engine braking. Engine braking is something that is not neccesary. The only time i engine brake is when i'm pulling a trailer. Other than that I let the brakes do the work. Why put extra wear and tear on your drivetrain when brake parts are a lot...
I have a 96 XJ 4.0 with the 5 speed (AX15) and have never noticed the tranny creating a lot of extra heat, even when pulling a 3500 lb boat. I would recomend checking you fluid and consider changing it. I also used to have a problem with my transmission shifting hard in the cold. I switched...
Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. Great on road performance in the snow and rain. Fair off road performance but that not why I bought them. Excellent in the wear catagory. Highly recommend.

My friend has a 97 stock Cherokee and he is getting some pulsing at 60 mph around. Its not a high speed vib. I have told him some things to try but looking for some more input. Thanks.

Assume that you transmission has a overdrive ratio of .84 to 1 here are some charts I made for different gear ratio, speeds, and engine rpm. Hope it helps.

55 1965
60 2144
65 2323

I say go for it. I lifted my 96 Cherokee with the 2" budget boost that rock lizard fabrications talks about. I have no problems with vibrations. I really don't think you will pick up any vibrations going up 2" but if you do I would try shiming the axle to try to match your pinion angle with...
