My bellhousing has the same thing. A lot of Alum. parts do, some fail (crack, leak) over time some don't. I have seen it many times but never seen one fail under normal conditions.
I recently bought a 87 XJ with a 4 cyl. Whan changing the plugs I found a black square thing around the #4 wire. I also found a little wire wrapped around a little circle thing on it. What is it and do I need it? Might be a pick up for the tach or something I thought but not sure.
