    02 sensor

thanks for the tips, looks like replacing it is a good idea she's bone stock, 14 mpg now (in Michigan cold) I think it got about 18 when it was warm so 16 in the cold seems reasonable. (well no that 16 is ever reasonable ha-ha) Thanks guys!

    02 sensor

Hi all, My 2000 4.0 rebuilt engine, 20k It's been getting 14mpg, my mechanic said the 02 sensor that is after the converter is bad, could that be what is killing my gas milage? It is getting colder. My mechanic said only the one in front of the converter matters. thanks,

Where to buy a new HEAD?

but if it's remanufactured, then doesn't that mean the will not use the old one? Doesn't remanufactured mean they will get new metal and a new mold and start from scratch? I could see using someones old head if it was rebuilt. I thought remanufactured meant they started all over from scratch...

Where to buy a new HEAD?

True......I guess it's just the core charge that has me confused. I'm wondering why they want my old one back if it;s a reman. I did look on the ATK website and they said they reverse engineer their products to eliminate manufactures defects. Just puzzled about the core, no big deal just curious.

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

HOLY COW!!! Now that is the best advice I have heard yet! You my friend are a wise man! I can hook him up my nice old ford pick-up. I'm going to laugh about that idea for a while. I might drop that one on him the next time he asks if "his" jeep is fixed. Funny, we went in on it 75/25 with me on...

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

I'm getting the engine I have rebuilt, so let's end that discussion. I'm not going junk yard hunting, I don't have the time or desire and I don't want to gamble and hope I get a good one. The engine that roasted was supposed to be a good one too. Crate engines seem to be the same thing as a...

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

Sure, but the rebuild will take care of that right? The metal is probably from the main bearings which weren't getting oiled properly because the oil pump may have been clogged with sludge. The rebuild and machine work will fix that right? Seriouly? 5000 worth of questionable used engines and...

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

but if I buy a good used engine, I might have the same problem in a few months and I would be out all the money spent on the engine and install, I alrealy thought I bought a good engine :) I think I'll order a new remanufactured head, the stronger one and have that put on when they rebuild it...

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

well apparently the guy who owned it before me didn't change the oil as often as he said. My mechanic found a couple inches of goop in the bottom of the oil pan and some metal shavings, he figured the oil pump couldn't move oil through the engine like it should. SO I guess it's engine rebuild...

compatiable engines for a 2000 xj

Super Thanks... Here's another thought....my 2000xj might have a cracked head and an oil pan with an oil coolant mix.. So given the fact the 2000-01 is prone to cracking, how about I buy a new remanufactured head from napa for 550 and have it put on my engine, and have my engine rebuilt...

compatiable engines for a 2000 xj

Hi all, I might be needing to swap out my 2000 engine soon. Can you tell me what engines from other year XJ's will fit? Do you have to swap out computers too? Any good reference web sites? as always, thanks Tom

    goopy oil, lost pressure, weird

Thanks Just called the boy........he didn't think the coolant was low, but he wasn't looking at that either. The oil change guy didn't say anything about the coolant so who knows. What does a head job cost and is it worth doing? (on the Jeep.....gutter mind) Thanks
