interior space

I had an 87 XJ 4.0, and it was kinda cramped for me but not to bad, a smaller steering wheel(or chopped column) would have made it a better fit for me. I don't have much experience with MJ's, and I wanted to know if the driver space is equal to, less than, or greater than that of the XJ? I saw one up close and personal but I didn't get it, it looked equal but I'm not sure. I have been wanting another one with a 4.0 BAD, and I found an MJ for a great price.
