Disc brake question...

According to the parts guy at Autozone, there are two different front rotors for the 2001 XJ, with slightly different heights. There is only one part number for the hubs, so the mounting surface is in the same place. The calipers and pads are the same way; one part number for that year. (excluding pad material)
It would seem to me that the difference in the rotor height is compensated by the caliper being on a slide and being able to move in and out. Since this style caliper has the pads that mount to the caliper instead of the rails on the knuckle like the '87-89s do, that would make sense. SO, either rotor should work, correct?
