Jon(evil xj) his wife and daughter my girlfriend and I did some exploring today up at Goat mountain. As everyone knows there isn't much up there that is to technical. But we had a good time anyways just driving through the mountains. Made it up to the towers. Not much snow at all.

Figured I should post pictures because if I didnt no one would believe the jeep left the garage for something other then a Christmas tree run.. lol

From what I understand their is no off roading up there at all. I was told buy a couple other locals that it's a $1100.00 + ticket if you cought up at the towers anymore. Just passing on what I was told.

Thanks for the heads up Dave. All the gates were open, other then a clearly posted road closure until June 30th. But that was only one section. There was also a ton of people up there. Next time Im over that direction ill stop and ask at the ranger station..

Did a little research today. I got a hold of Estacada ranger station and BLM main office and they both tell me that if you are driving on "existing" roads it is perfectly legal and ok. I was also told the only things they are trying to keep people from doing are 1: Making new trails or driving were there is no road, and 2: not going around road closure gates and signs.. I am expecting a call back tomorrow from the patrol officer that patrols the area.

I was told that there is an area across from promantory park on 224 that is open to OHV's. Which is pretty close to goat..

What is over there now is road. There are a bunch of old illegal trails that are now closed off. There is one spot on the (I believe) 4610 road that had a landslide several years ago that you'd probably need a winch or very well built rig to get through... There really isn't anything though...

4610 is what they were talking about being across from promentory. That is completely open no restrictions unless posted..
See We just want to get out and explore some of these roads. You have to much time on your hands. Need another rig to follow next time?? lol

Well, Saturday and Sunday nights I'll be camping up on Lolo Pass. Lots of roads up there to explore. Gonna try to take the OHV trails up to Mt Defiance too...

For what its worth, I have spoken with the ODF guys in Hood National forest. There are NO OFFICAL OHV trails in the hood national forest. You are supposed to be on a forest road at all times, there are no motorized trails.
