Well, Heather and I brought home another misfit XJ last night.

1998 XJ
4.0
2WD
AUTO
PW, PDL
It has a set of 18 inch Dodge Nitro wheels on it right now. I know, 18's.... but they don't look too bad really. The tires are bald, but the P/O also left a set of stock snowflakes with some Hankook MT's in the 235/75R15 flavor in the back of the Jeep. I drove it to work today, but didn't have time to swap the wheels out. It may have a dead spot in the steering, lots of wiring needs reworking, and definitely needs driveshaft U joints (obvious acceleration vibration). Also lots of small cosmetic issues, but overall not horrible.

Heads up for pictures!

Good score!!

What's been living in the nest above the rear view mirror...:D

It's some form of electrical gremlin nest. Those little guys have a variety of nest styles, shapes and colors. This one seems to be of the "took the headliner out to redo it and never did" style.

Congrats.... and what is up with that steering wheel?

Well sir, Black Betty has a rebuilt title. I can only assume that the airbag deployed and they were too lazy to replace the components properly. Which brings up a good question.

Can I swap in a 99 steering wheel with cruise and it work?

Also, I swapped out the headlights, marker and corner lenses for some that I had laying around. Someone painted the lenses black in the past..... Pics in the morning.

And one more thing, as I'm in the drive thru at Wendy's, she's running a little warm. E-fan is definitely not working.....

Only one more caveat. The key got stuck in the ACC position and it wouldn't come out. But I kinda got mad and it came out. But still in the ACC spot.....

You know what mad gets you......broke stuff.

There are several parts that need to be there in order for CC to work. I'm not sure what all it takes but I know it's more than just the steering wheel controls.

Clock spring is the first thing I’d check. I doubt that has one. Lol.

Per my NAXJA research, the PCM on the 98 requires different signals from the buttons than the 99 can provide. I have also found that different fuses in the kick panel control different systems. 97-98 are the same, 99's seem to be unicorns, and 00-01 are the same. From what I gather the change from 99 to 00 is due to the coil pack ignition.

I solved the e-fan issue by removing the connector between the smaller wires coming from the fan to the larger wires from the wiring harness on the driver fender. I wiggled and jostled the connector to no avail, and when I unplugged it, it seemed solid. Plugged back in, intermittent fan operation. Squeezed it together with some needle nose, and it worked. Bypassed the connector and solid operation. I have another fan laying in the shop somewhere, I hope the connector is on it.
