Detail Time

I'm in the final planning stages for the California trip, and need a little info to get some details worked out.

#1: Trailor parking: Can you recommend a fairly safe area to park the tow rig and trailor? I'm in for the entire trip, including Fordyce and Barrett Lake. Is there a convenient and central location?

#2: Friday, August 13: I know we are meeting on the 14th to start Fordyce, but are there any plans to get the trip started on the right note, or should I find a dark alley and cardboard box?

#3: Meals: I know we are dining in style thanks to the Sierra Chapter at the Icehouse. But for the remainder of the trip, is anyone interested in banding together for chow? I like to cook and all, but cooking for one is a pain in the ass-- I'd rather cook for a group and share the duties.

Time is running out. I'm leaving for Ouray in a month!

I'd be interested in sharing meals for the Rubicon part. I'm alone for at least the first couple days, my dad may be coming up later in the week.

Jon,

I would park your tow rig at any one of the large casinos down in Reno. It's right on Highway 80, and it's only about a 30 minute trip to the Fordyce trailhead. Can your rig get away with about 30 miles of highway?

I'd love to throw a party at my house, and I'm sure some peeps will show (they may actually be getting my rig running the night before the trip!) but it would mean an extra hour on the highway from Reno. Type in "Foresthill, CA 95631 into mapquest to get an idea of where I live. You are welcome to crash here Friday night.

Oh yeah, the pig is actually smoother on the road now than it has ever been. Unless I do some serious damage in Montrose, it ought to be road worthy. Now, I'm not sure about "street legal"....

Mapquest shows it's 106 miles from Reno to Foresthill. I'd love to join the PARTAAAAY, but I'm not sure I want to put that many road miles on the Jeep. I'll have to think about the journey for a bit.

Jon, I'll be arriving Friday afternoon, and will park my tow rig at the Rubicon staging area at the Tahoe side of the trail, very close to the lake. It's about a 45 min drive to the Fordyce trailhead from there, where we'll be camping Fri night. I know some will head for CRASH's place Fri, but there will be a group of us camping at the trailhead.

I don't know what time I'll get there Fri, I'll be sightseeing on the way up on Thurs and Fri.

I may join you camping. After camping for a week in CO, then driving 1000 miles, I doubt Mr. and Mrs. Crash will appreciate the funk I'll bring with me.
