I have a 92 xj with 31's and just finished installing 4.10s. I want to change my speedo gear but neither I or the parts guy at the local dealership and figure it out. I know i need a 39 tooth gear or close to it.

I did a little searching and came up with this :

Long shaft part numbers (1991-1993) - 2538939 - 39 tooth speedo gear
Short shaft part numbers (1993-2000)- 52067639 - 39 tooth speedo gear

I took a look at my t-case and it seems that i have the newer electronic type of connection which mean i should have the short shaft? But with my year it says i should have a long shaft which is a cable type?

Make sense? Any ideas which one?

did the t-case get swapped out at some point? 92 should require a long shaft. easiest thing to do would be to pull the gear you have and visually confirm if its a long shaft or short.

thanks but that still does not help. According to that mine should use a speedo cable but mine has electronic type.

I need to know if all electronic type use short shaft or not?
