Need help with project

We are building a scale model of the Deepwater Horizon.

We have run into a problem with putting a 'window' on the front and making it water tight. The window is made from plexiglass and the box is made from 3/4" plywood and 2x4 framing.

What's the best way to make this window simply while keeping it water tight?

Make some metal straps that go around the outside edge of the plexiglass window. Drill holes all around the perimeter and have 1 metal piece on the outside and 1 metal piece on inside. Then just put a good bead of silicone around the edge to seal it and tightening the bolts will clamp it in place.

First picture - you can see how the structure of the box is set up. Basically the front is deep the back part is shallow. We used expandable foam to take up space.

The second picture is how it looks "done" and full of sand.

After some more research, it looks like marine epoxy is the best stuff to coat with as it actually bonds with the wood and becomes completely water tight. Then, you can use silicone caulking and it works fine.

This is not meant to be continuously full of water - we're just going to use it as a temporary display.
