  • April 28 - May 1 - the Trailfest at AOP currently has 472 registered vehicles
  • May 31 - The Damn Locals will hold their annual Memorial Day bash in Tracy City TN
  • June 3-5 - the Unlimited Off-Road Expo will be held in Louisville KY. SWFDA will be sharing an exhibit booth with CORVA (CA Off-Road Rec), Tread Lightly, and Blue Ribbon Coalition.
  • June 11, the second SWFDA Meet and Ride will take place at "The Shop's Sugar Hill Off-Road Park" in Marion NC
  • June 28 - the next SWFDA leadership webinar is scheduled to take place
Also, the official grand opening of the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway is scheduled for May 1. Regarding the timeline leading up to that:

  • In March 2016, there was a meeting attended by SFWDA, FOB, ORFW, USFS, Powell County, Lee County, Wolfe County, Menifee County, and Congressmen Andy Barr's office. The discussed the current state of closure that had been implemented by the USFS, KY Land Heritage Conservation Fund, Sierra Club, and the KY State Parks Department in 2006. They came to a 98% collaborative agreement for the reopening of the byway.
  • In April 2016, the SWFDA BOD committed $9,600 towards the legal fees for the re-opening, including a study on the impact using a case study of the Rubicon Trail.
  • Tread Lightly granted $2,000 for signage, which is already in place
  • SWFDA granted funds to Cartotracks to create digital maps of the DBBB
  • The SWFDA has set aside an additional $18,000 to cover potential final legal costs should the collaborative agreement fall through and the need for Federal and/or State lawsuits become necessary.
