Mike (Willy51) and I met Greg at the Discovery Center Thursday morning for the Maintenance Plan Run on 2N04 and what Greg called “some of the east side trails. Should be a good day.” We met at 9am then headed over to 2N04. The trail is in good shape. The crossing at Arrastre Creek needs work again to keep the creek in the creek bed not flowing on the road. Also the springs approaching the creek will need some work to divert the water out of the tread and off the trail. A few of the headcuts will need some more rock armoring and typical brushing in some areas where trees and bushes are starting to grow over the trail. One good thing to note was the lack of trash on the trail.
Afterward we headed out to the northeast to check on the report of a newly abandoned vehicle. On the way we stopped for lunch, checked out some old mining prospects and finally found the abandoned vehicle. This ate more time than we expected. Originally we wanted to head toward Cactus Flats to do some tree removal but decided to scrap that being that it was late in the day. On the way back toward Big Bear we came across a lone motorcycle on 2N02 near the shooting areas. A few hundred feet down the road we found the rider. The bike had stalled and the battery died trying to restart it, the rider had planned to walk back to Big Bear. We tried to jump start the bike with no luck. A couple of people that Greg knew passed us and offered to tow the bike back to Baldwin Lake.
We finally returned to the Discovery Center at 5:45pm.
