Bashing the dash to make speedometer work

So sometimes I have to give the dash a thump to get the Speedo and tacho to work, rarely one will work and the other will not.
Have tried dielectric grease on the instrument cluster connector.
I believe it’s relatively common problem just can’t find the fix.
Any ideas?

My '99 Cherokee would do this. It was so bad I had an app on my phone to get my speed via GPS. Three years back I had the heater core and blend doors replaced and after reassembling the dash the problem disappeared. I'm thinking, in my case, just oxidation or corrosion on the contacts.
