Cooling ports

Something funny here. 87 XJ 4.0. Doing a head gasket. Head has the cooling ports. Block doesn't. So before I do something stupid and either drill them out or reassemble with opening the ports, I need some input. Did the 87 renix engine come without the ports that match my head?

I believe some of the ports are not used. I would just make sure the new head gasket looks like the one you removed.

So looking at the new gasket answered my question. The 87 block only had the 2 rear cooling ports.
