Not sure if this belongs in the For Sale forum but it's about a sale. How bout that?

Saw that Sven was looking for an XJ. You might want to hang on till January 27th when the State holds it's surplus property auction. Viewing is usually the day or two before the auction at their yard at 1537 west Jackson (http://www.azdoa.gov/msd/surplus/public-auction-information.) They don't have anything listed yet and I've not received anything in the mail so don't know about XJs but the one at the end of August had 11.
Those varied from 110k-160k miles and from 96-2001 model year. One 2 door. Remarkably clean compared to what I'd seen in the low priced private market. Manual everything but all had carpet, AC, automatic with tranny cooler. No rust (plenty of dust.)
I bought a 96 with a bad motor which is almost done. 8.25/D30 3.55 gears, cruise control, radio. Of the rest one had an exhaust leak and the rest ran.
Prices were mostly in the mid to high 3000s and a few got into the 4s. The first one was a 2001 and I think people were standing around waiting to see what the market would bear before bidding and it went for just under 3000.
Auctions are funny things, seems like you only win when everyone else thinks you're paying more than they would (or have I suppose.) One strategy is to figure out what a fair price would be and just put it out there when the bidding starts - the jump kind of shocks the people looking to make a killing, hopefully into silence and it keeps you out of heated and emotional bidding which can take it higher than you'd like.

In the Az chapter here cw50must bought one a few years ago from the same source and you can find out what's become of his here: http://www.craigsxj.com/My_Homepage_Files/Page1.html

When I get the flier from them I'll post whatever they have in the jeep department. or scan in the list and post that in case someone's looking for a school bus, ambulance or an exploding DPS Crown Vic (or just want the OHC crown vic motor!)

Also, the City of Phx is having a surplus property auction on 2/10. No idea what's in that either. Their site: http://phoenix.gov/INVMGT/index.html. Viewing the two days before.

1537 West Jackson St., Phoenix. The SW corner of 15th Ave and Jackson. Just south of the capital mall area.
I was thinking about my original post and there is another way to look at the surplus sale option: If you can find a clean lifted(in a quality manner) XJ with around 150k miles under $4000 on the private market strongly consider grabbing it. The surplus ones are no less expensive, plus you get whatever aftermarket parts were added baked into the price, typically at a discount.

I received the flier about the state surplus auction yesterday. Forgot they only give the complete list of items when you go for inspection or on the day of. I've scanned it in anyway since it provides some information.

Page 2 has a map and the fine print which is worth a read if you are thinking of going.

It occured to me that someone might consider this spam. If so I'll delete it. fwiw, I have no affiliation with anyone connected with this, just seems like an opportunity for anyone looking for an XJ (or a welder for that matter.)
