rear bump stops

If I do not have any clearance issues do I need rear bump stops? I have my thoughts and reasons why I think I should build some. I am just seeing what your thoughts are on this issue.

My rig is a 1989 2 door with the rear wheelwells gone and replaced with plenty of room. The rear axle is a Ford 9'' with leafs and 4.5'' of lift. 36'' TSL/Sx's are strapped to the axle.

My shocks would end up being the bump stops? Should this be a concern?

This is the only reason that I can think about building them.

I would say that premeture fatigue of my leafs would be a concern but to me that just makes it a more flexy suspension.

BTW this is a trail rig only.

Here is what I have done. Why do you ask if I moved the shock up on the axle. That would reduce the up travel of my rear axle. Causing my shocks to "bottom out" sooner.

Or, is that what you are getting at?

You should never let the shocks be the bumpstops. They and the mounts are not designed to take the load and both will fail.
