Kiefers DD search thread.

Well as it stands at the moment I am spending about 60 bucks a week on gas to get to and from work. 42 mile round trip. I am wanting to cut the cost down since I'm hearing gas prices will be going way up when it warms up. I don't really want a Honda unless its 5 speed and the b20 I think is what its called. Maybe thinkin an integra or talons tsi or eclipse gsx. But also considering a small midsized truck to do the parts hauling/moving duties. But the purpose of this is to get better mileage then my heavy ass xj gettin about 250 miles to the tank all week depending on if people don't pods me off.

So what say Ye naxja fellows?

I say, the pro-business Japanese Government fined Mitsubishi for substandard product and practice. That is a rare occurrance! Maybe they have improved their product reliability and parts availability since I worked on them, but, based on my experience, you couldn't pay me to rely on one.

Get a four cylinder beater, keep it stock, accept it for what it is.

Most I would do to it is bigger wheels/tire combo and a sound system to make my ears hurt. Not planning on any huge mods other then intake and exhaust of course. And no not fart can exhaust just something to make it have some sort of noise. Then of course tint.

Well, having an extra car does have it's benefits, but you're not going to justify it's cost in fuel savings alone........ obviously you gotta buy it, then insure it, fuel it, fix it....... A whole lot more than $60/week.....

Then you gotta ask yourself if your DD will be simply that.... just A to B transportation, or will you end up with something you wanna modify and have fun with..... the DD becomes just a second project vehicle.

With that said....... I don't own a single vehicle that is just an A to B daily driver.....

So, if your intentions are to get a true beater car...... keep it a beater car and throw your funds at the Jeep. A car for any other reason will just be added expense.

I second all the above -- find a mid-90's 4-door civic that has no value to the ricer crowd, make sure it runs well, and enjoy your 35+ mpg (that's your stated goal), without wasting your hard earned funds moding your DD to "make a sound" -- you have a jeep to swallow all your excess cash.

Getting a DD was the best decision I've ever made. For how much I drive, it paid for itself in just a few months.
My requirements were that its manual, and that I'd upgrade the sound system, seeing that i'll do 800 miles a week in it, I wanted something that would keep me entertained.

My escort was getting 28/35 My Paseo is now getting 33/39

you're missing the point, man -- looks? huh uh... MILEAGE and RELIABILITY and PRICE -- that's all that's important in a DD when you're looking to save coin.

Well I know what you mean by reliabilty... I am saying id rather spend 1500 on something thats not beat to shit rather then 700 for something that's not very appealing. But i may end up buying my brothers 2door hatchback civic si. needs tires, clutch and a fender...

DD's dont pull tail. even for guys with money. they drive Prius'. so you know THEY arent getting any :D

Get yourself a little VW Golf or Jetta, Civic, or other FWD 4popper.

If you want a little 4cyl 2wd truck you can't go wrong with either an S-10 or Ford Ranger. You'll still be getting 25ish mpg and have the bed for hauling crap around in.

That's what i was thinking. An s-10 would be awesome. If i got a golf I would want a newer one, because im not a huge fan of the older body styles.

Well that's because you're a bit fruity, but I won't hold it against you. :)

4cyl S-10's are good little beaters and fun to tool around on. My 98 was lowered with a belltech 3"/4" drop and it could still haul a bed full of fill dirt when needed.

My uncle has what he calls "whooptie shitbuck 1"
Him and his co workers all traveled to monument from the springs for work.
So they all decided to pitch in 200 bucks to buy 3 whooptie shitbucks. Lol
They got a good dealwhen they bought 3 at a time.
He put a new battery in his. Oil change and new gas.
Now he has a 30mpg 70s Honda that runs great.
Not pretty by any means. A 6'5 white biker guy in a late 70s hatch back....
But he's into it 200 bucks after registering and insuring!

Me however. I have an Xj with 4.56 gears. And an Xj with stock gears.
So compared, I get way better gas milage in my stock Xj. Enough to save money on gas!!!
And if something breaks. Like a window or something minor. I have an extra Xj to use parts from if I need it in a hurry!
I supposed I'm just addicted to Xjs.
Just my 2 cents

Kiefer, this seems like a pretty decent deal for the money....... sell the topper to recoup some funds too......

I wouldn't normally promote owning a Ford..... but for $700 and cheap DD duties..... meh. :dunno:

eh... I guess I am more a chevy guy when it comes to older trucks. Wonder what his bottom dollar is... :D

I don't blame ya....... I wouldn't buy it myself.... but it would be a cheap beater. I sold a similar topper from that parts MJ I got a while back for $300.... you'd be into that truck for $400......

Just sayin'.......

But a 4 banger S-10 would be better in my mind..... ya just can't find 'em for as cheap as this Ranger is.

Yeah but Im also thinking of potential problems that it could have. I don't wanna have to spend a fortune on making it reliable.

Also thinking of an older toyota pickup... 2wd of course... Neighbor used to have one and he sold it for 1k about a year and a half ago. I was a few hundred short at the time so i was kinda bummed i missed out on that deal.
