I posted up before, but with the crash the thread was lost.

As we do every year, my father and I are running Mojave road thanksgiving weekend. This trip is open for you to join, I just need a head count so I can plan.

Our plan is to leave wednesday, spend wed night at Avi casino, and hit the trail thursday after breakfast. We intend to pull back onto the pavement mid day sunday, at Afton Canyon. You can cut out early at Kelbaker road if you wish.

We will set a thursday night camp location in advance with instructions on how to get there and join us thursday night / friday morning. This will probably be Fort Piute or somewhere near by, to be determined soon.

Stock rigs fine. Be mechanically sound, have tow points, and normal spares. We will have a PETT toilet, and charge what it costs us for bags.

Please PM me if you wish to attend, so I can get a list of who to expect and a head count. Last year we had I think 9 rigs and about 18 people, and it was a really good time.

Id love to go but dont think it will happen this year

This is up by Las Vegas yea? I may be up there for Thanksgiving anyhow (MAYBE....). I googled it and it seems like a nice trail, like 138 miles long or something lol. I'll try and see if i can get up there for it, sounds like a blast. Do you do it in 2 or 3 days or just take a day and see how much you can see?

WOW man, that looks very fun! Sometimes it's nice to do something other than just run the same old trail, and get out and actually explore. Very very cool pics in there as well. Thanks for the links!

If you decide you want to come along, i can get you dirs to where we are camping thursday night, or you can meet us thanksgiving morning.

Carry extra gas. Its a long trail in the middle of nowhere, most people carry 5 gallons, i usually carry 10 and use it.

Ok! I have a 6 gal can (plastic job) but I'm really wanting the dual steel Jerry can setup. Not sure if they make them to mount on XJ's or if I'd just have to use the rack. I'll look into it. Thanks again for the info bud :).

I've got some spare can's if you cant find them in time too. Just make damn sure to RSVP with me and get good travel plans, and i can drag them out to the trailhead with me.

You should have gone on the Afton Canyon run!

Cal... I know I have been planning on this run for about 4 months now. I can't go I have to work the fri after Turkey day. I'm super bummed about it and have been wanting to do this trail for years. Next year my friend. Next year.

Ok.

I need a head count for who wants to come out and join us thursday morning, and who thinks they are going to join us thursday night/friday morning.

Thursday night my family and Hildy's will be camped at Fort Piute.

You can reach it by coming up highway 95 and bringin Mojave Road in, which is about 9 miles of dirt.

or

You can take 40 to 66, and bring a power line road up to the Fort Piute turn-off, which is about 19 miles of dirt.

I posted a map with GPS cords, and google earth kmz files. If you intend to come out, please look at the google earth files and familiarize yourself with the route - and most importantly LET ME KNOW YOU ARE COMING, and if its gonna be thursday night or friday morning.

We intend to leave Fort Piute and continue on the trail at approx 9:15 am friday morning. If I know for sure someone is in route, I can hold try and hold the group up waiting for them.

We will be stopping to stretch and check out the scenery frequently, and there will be several loads of children along.

As soon as I can get a rough headcount, we'll figure out thanksgiving dinner plans.

Forgive the ultra high res jpg, I wanted to give both details and a broad picture of where we are.
