This was my dads truck.
Since he passed away, it has just been sitting.
It hadn't been started in 7+ years.
A buddy and I put a battery in and some starting fluid.
Fired right up after 7+ years of just sitting.
Gotta love Chevys!!
Any way.
It's an 88 ext cab long bed. 2wd
Lots of plans for this truck! It's time to get it back on the road. Eventually will be bagged. Laying frame on 24s

Here is the start.
Painted everything with a quick coat of flat black. Just to get an idea of problem spots and dents.

Have a long way to go...

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

It's actually looking like a truck again.
I think my dad would be happy.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

you just gonna go straight to bags up front or what? Im down for some more chevy droppage. Maybe once yours is lower I can convince my brother to go lower with his

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Ether way really.
I think I'm going to just drop it for now and get it all ready for bags as I get extra funds. Lol

If I just lower it for now. It will be 4 front and 5 in that back. Maybe 5/6.
The flip kit and c notch I'm getting from Flores drops the rear 6. I think.
So I'll probably do 5 in the front.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

What brand C-notch? Not hard to weld up some box to the frame where you need it and then cut the existing once its removed. Flip kit is just a matter of cutting off and rewelding perches

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Not sure on brand.
He only wants 75$ so it's not too bad.

Gotta figure out the best way to drop the front 5in.
It's going to be on 24s so ill have to bag it before I get the wheels.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

drop splindles and drop coils. can get like 2-3" splindles and then coils. Your camber might be dicked, but who cares

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

If I get 3" spindles. What drop coils should I get?
I'm now a Newby to the whole slamming and bagging trucks scene. Lol

Gotta learn the what's good and what's not.
Deciding if I want to or if I even have time to join a full size chevy forum...

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Then do 2" coils.and.get 5" drop total. that truck half ton?

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Ohhhh. 8 lug? only drop spindle for 8 lug are like 600. might as well get bags for that price

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

It's only 6 lug.
I'm now thinking about just getting the wheels first.
Then bag it.
I just don't want to spend all the cash to lower it if im just going to bag it anyway.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Found some time today to get some wiring issues figured out.
A couple wires that wernt grounded and a couple that were grounded that shouldn't have been.
Headlights are now working as they should.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Little update
Through working on this truck, it's bringing back some memories.
Besides driving the dune buggy right before he died, in this truck was the last time I really talked to him.
I know he isn't here but it feels like he's helping me pick the parts.
Glad I have the chance to finish something he started.

New front bumper, phantom grille and solid rear glass installed.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

I'd do a static drop in the front and maybe bag the rear. I guess it depends on just how low you want to go. Obviously with bags front and rear you can slam it when cruising or parked, but still raise it up for pesky driveways and speed bumps.

You should also be able to get different control arms to lower the front, I know they offer that for S-10's. Doing an alignment after drop spindles isn't an issue, but the springs will cause camber issues. The camber is fixable though, so not too much of a concern.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Static rear bag front is easiest and cheapest for most drop.
you can get drop spindles and coils and control arms but won't net nearly as much as a static on the rear.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Im going to bag it front and rear.
Just have to decide if I'm going to drop it until I get bags.
Got the axle flip kit and c notch for the rear.
Might just buy spindles and coils for the front for now.
It would drop it 5" in the front and 6" in the back
Does independent front have control arms? Lol
Haven't paid that much attention.

Re: My 88 chevy- project in progress

Ya it's a-arms up front.

rear will get you a lil bit more than that. likely like 7". you can.add a block and.go deeper too.

I want to at least drop it soon.
I don't really know how to go about it or where to even start.
Need to find spindles and coils first I suppose.
