high pinion cover on a low pinion dana 30??

i swapped a low pinion 30 into my xj in place of the CAD high pinion 30 . I cleaned/repainted the high pinion cover and just put it on the low pinion but i noticed the fill holes are at 2 different heights on the cover .The high pinion cover is now higher than the LP cover .I can see not having enough oil being bad but is having too much just as bad???
