....a personal mechanic :eeks1:

im pretty much starting from scratch with her jeep

front and rear axle builds, cage, whole lot of finish work.

any one else as far in the hole on jeep work as i am?

I need to inspect my front and rear gear sets. Depending on what I find, I could be in big trouble.

Install and finish cage
Traction bar
Front driveshaft
Transfer case linkage
Find what else is wrong and be screwed

My list has to be done by WinterFest, but I'm sure I'll add more before the Crawl.

Install 8.8/4.5" leafs.
Install winch bumper.
Install/plumb MM hydro winch.
Install roof sliders.
Purchase and install rock rails.
Rear tow point of some kind.
Go through driveshafts and axleshafts to refresh ujoints and slip joints.
Hook up e-brake.
Good shake down to drive 750 miles round trip.

Wish list:

Tire carrier.
97+ intake.
WJ PS pump.
Rear locker.
Swaybar discos.

Paint my cage
Redo my rear shock setup
Maybe get new seats and harnesses

Before Winterfest needs:
Oil Pan
Figure out why the rear D44 keeps blowing axle seals.
Figure out vibration above 60mph

Before Crawl and maybe some before Winterfest:
Rear bumper/tire carrier/hitch combo
Belly up skid plate
After market control arms/poss long arms
Rear locker - selectable
Full exhaust and header set up.
Spare D44 shafts (might be the fix for the leaking rear axle seal)
SYE
spare front and rear driveshafts

mac 'need to clean my white board off from KOH 2011' gyvr

Swap out suspension (working on that this weekend).
Cut and install new steering (in the next couple of weeks hopefully).
Frame Stiffiners (yeah, the same ones I won two years ago at the crawl...still haven't got them on yet).
Would like to find some new tires for it as well.

Whatever else decides to go wrong between now and then.

New front shackles (current ones are too short)..getting ironman adjustables

Shave the 14 bolt so Nick will still be my friend.

try to afford some Q78's or 36X13 TSL's.

make a winch mount (have winch already).

Get a CB for it so I don't have to move the one from my dodge.

Load it on the trailer and head out!!

Here is what ours needs before winterfest and harlan.

Gas tank skid
t-case skid
cut and fold quarters
Rocker replacement rock sliders
rear bumper
control arm skids
Gather spare parts
maybe a locker if we can fimd one

Replace my rear pinion nut.
Install tube rockers.
Install cage floor plates.
Replace rear seat with rear seat with harnesses.
Build B-pillar support and harness bar.
Build rear bumper/tire carrier.
Find 37" spare.
Paint front bumper.
Replace front shocks.
Build rear bumpstops.
Install front air bumps.
Get rear springs re-arched.

To early to tell everything - but I do need to repair the Fall Flog damage sooner rather than later.

My list of sh*t to do.

Replace transmission
Bolt front clip on
Build bumper for winch
Add some more tube
Rework shock mounts in the rear
Replace shocks
Add a battery hold down
Clean it up.

Not a bad list.

Help Tim and Nick with what ever they need if they need it.....

My heep!
Compression check...
Fix drivers seat.
Find spare front DS or buy one....
Fix brakes, they work but could work better.

Dream list:
knuckles for the 60
35 spline outers for the 60
coil overs front? Jury still out on this one.
chop rear and 4 link with 4 suspension seats... jury still out here too...

XJ-
Fix power steering leak
Inspect front suspension (noisy/loose)
install rear shackle boxes
redo CB antenna
...a cage would be nice, but I doubt I'll have the money by then.

Back up plan-
check fluids, grease joints and bring the Willys...

Now that I dug into it - mostly minor stuff:

  • new u-joint in front drive shaft - DONE
  • new driveshaft straps - DONE
  • new front pinion yoke
  • repair spring holder on drivers side
  • a couple new tie rod ends
  • repair snapped off bolt in the differential housing
  • maybe a new ball joint. Firestone says it's bad. I'm doubtful.
