What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

It will be the family camping/road trip vehicle. Love the XJ platform but space was getting limited. We love to go tent camping and by the time I loaded up the XJ with gear, wife and dogs it was snug. With the addition of Satan aka my daughter it would have been maxed. I've always the wj just ordered the xj. All in all I really like this one of all the rigs I've had. Brough up the hill last night thing has no issue pulling 90 if needed. Plenty of room and just rides smooth.

Right on, that sounds like it'll get your where you need to go lol, plus V8 is badass.
I just threw a new 136 alt on the motor today. Mine was toast, sounded like rocks inside kinda. At least I don't have to worry about it seizing up and the engine bay is quieter. That alone is a win in my book.

It ain't easy keeping this thing going as a daily driver, I've been checking things off the list, new stuff is adding to it lol.

Rear shock mounts basically done. I used barnes4wd towers, which I was pretty disappointed with. The fit really wasn't that great, and the only reason I ordered these was the description said 14" tall from top of frame. I took that as a shock eye measurement which it's not. The longest side is 14 but since they're angled they're not even 14 tall. Really need to put up some real dimensions on the site. I cut them back to make them more straight up, and had to space them off the floor with some 2*4 tubing. Not what I wanted to do, but I made them work and the back seat is still functional.

Seems like Barnes is hit or miss on stuff.

I just got some heim misalignments from them, and while they should be 100% fine, they're not as nice as the ones I got from RuffStuff originally.

Been working on the WJ. A lift made life 100,000,000 times easier. Still not done but it's at least able to be on it's own weight. My dad wasn't paying attention when we were putting in the coils and crushed one of the new brakelines......So need to get that fixed and spend more money.

Is that a Freedom Edition with an HO 4.7 and a 242?

Obviously It's a little late, but our Towers would have worked a lot better for ya. They were designed specifically for the XJ chassis and remain water tight if done right.

The question about those would be are they designed for a shock with long travel allowing adequate frame rail clearance on full articulation for the dropped side without frame rail contact... 12s aren't long travel and a shock body of 2.5 not 2.0 . There are a lot of shock towers around and most require modification to work well with large body shocks and lomg travel , and most items made for an XJ are not made well enough to work at the more extreme ends of their use .

Haha, yeah there is a part of me that thinks WJs look like a roided out minivans but I love them.

I agree, just comfy. We went down to Westcliffe last weekend for a wedding and took the WJ on it's first trip. Jeep did great. The 4.7HO has so much pulling power. Just punch in and it goes. Need to replace the steering here soon though. Pretty sure the TRE's are giving up the ghost after the lift and tires. Steering has gotten really sloppy and there's been some DW. Part of it was a loose bolt on the track bar, but after going through the steering is pretty much done. I have all the parts so now it's just getting the time. Still trying to get unpacked in the new place....

Double post.....

Tail lights and rear pretty much done. Need to finish weld a few things when I change wire size and clean few more things up. Not gonna run fender well and see how bad the dust is I guess.

Flickr is still being weird. If anyone know how to post pics from there without the camera roll thing I'd love to know.

Looks good... I was going to drop the fender hoops like that , but I paid over $300 for these damn jcr quarter armor and tail light box ...lol... so I wanted to keep the marker lightt/ turn signal to yield the illusion I didn't waste $300 .

So I finally figured out what coils I have on the coilovers since someone painted them. They're pac spring 14x110 over 18x150. I'm assuming these are going to be WAY too light since the combined rate is like 65. I'll probably get it on the ground and get some measurements and see what accutune says. Anybody care to comment on what they've used out of curiosity? Seems like everyone has a preference when I search, lots of numbers out there.

Sam and I charged my A/C yesterday.

I've got some vaccuum stuff to follow up on, but overall it was blowing nice and cold.

We did notice what appeared to possibly be a slight leak in the accumulator schrader valve. Put a rubber cap on it, and figured I'd see if it leaked out over time.

Well, as I was getting ready to head back to work from lunch...kaboosh!

Luckily pulled it over to the hose and cleaned all the damn dye off.

Time for some new schraders and caps...and another try
