Shaving or clearancing a Ford 8.8

Has anyone clearanced or shaved their Ford 8.8 for more ground clearance under the pumpkin? Any pics or details how you have gone about it?

I have only been able to find the following https://www.code4x4.com/projects/axle_88/axle_88.html . but not a lot else. Any info would be great!

I’ve seen a few rigs with shaved 8.8s. That link seems to cover all you need to know. One guy in his thread said he used a flap disc to shave the ring gear lol.

I dont get hung up on the 88 to much and when i do most of the time it was a poor line choice. I did however make a ramp out of 1/4 plate leading up to that big lip on the bottom. Slides over most things with that.

Most rear axles can benefit from trimming or shaving.
Below is a 8.25, with a Riddler cover. that has been shaved to reduce the wide lip.

I have just been talking with Jeff Bullock, the Owner of Ballistic Fabrication . https://www.ballisticfabrication.com/. They make a Dana 60 and 14 bolt shave kit. He just told me they are in the design phase for a 8.8 shave and truss kit. Could be a great option for us 8.8 owners when it comes out. It would be great to have a kit so we don't have to start from scratch.

That's what I'm thinking, a 8.25 yes but the 8.8 is already pretty rounded.

Ron, you haven't gotten caught on that stupid little lip at the bottom front of the diff before? I had that little lip hook on a rock just last weekend. I was initially thinking of hitting it with a grinder or something. If Ballistic can make a kit like they do their 60 and 14 bolt kits, and it gives at least 1" or more of increased clearance under the pumpkin, and gets rid of that stupid little lip on the 8.8 - I would be all over it. It would be like going from a 37" tire to a 39" tire - and I am down with that. I guess we'll see what they come out with.

Paulhead, so you are recommending I run 40's with my Ford 8.8 now? :p  I am always looking and considering at all the options that are available while I stick with my 37's and existing axles.

Didn't see you tire size, I've ran 35s and an 8.8 and been fine. I too notice the pumpkin hanging up a little but not enough for me to shave it. I've just seen that much work put into more of a 14 bolt or a 60.
