My M416 restomod/hole to throw money in

Got it back on the tub tonight after I picked up some of my mess.

Mocking up the mount brackets. Original m100 trailer tubs were welded to the frame. Iím going to weld mount tabs to the tub and use rivnuts in the frame rail to mount the tub.

Very similar to the way the later m416 tub is mounted. 6 on each side and 3 on the front and the back.

I finished up 1 side and the back of the frame with rivnuts before I realized I didnít have any more 3/8Ē ones.

So I started putting 1/4x20 rivnuts in where I wanted to clamp the 7 wire cable from front to back.

I decided to run the wire on the bottom of the frame rail so I didnít have to drill more holes in the crossmember.

The cable will run to a 7 wire junction box and then split to two 4 wire cables for the tail lights on each side. The other 3 wires are for whatever I want in the back that needs power, like lights or something.

Iíve owned enough trailers to know that wiring doesnít last the life of your trailer so Iím planning ahead to replace it when the time comes.

Those junction boxes are a wonderful thing.

I have gone to setting up my trailers with one of those right in the front. That way when the dog gets to hankering for trailer wiring plug again I have an easier job of swapping out that first few feet.

I have one for the front thatís going to run the 7 wire connector to the truck. I donít need 7 wires but it will be nice to have charging power for the trailer batteries when weíre on the move.

Some progress today.

Ran clamps for the tail light harnesses.

Finished the rivnut install on the other side.

Welded the tabs to the tub on both sides.

Now the tub is mounted on both sides. I had to order more tabs for the front and the rear.

I welded in slippers and shorts because I wore shorts to Dover and fried my shins and ankles so bad it still hurts.

I did put a long sleeve shirt on because I was getting sparks on my arms.

Re: My M416 restomod/hole to throw money in

I made the mistake of welding in the wrong footwear once. I don't intend to ever do it again.

It was one of those things where a buddy dropped off his truck and I took it over to another buddy's shop to use his lift to weld in a new muffler. It wasn't until I got the truck up on the lift and started working on it before I realized my mistake. It just didn't seem worth it to get the truck back off the lift and drive back home to get real shoes. Well, I managed to drop a dingleberry right between my toes. I swear those nerves were still complaining that my foot was on fire 12 months afterwards. I have become pretty insistent about always wearing real shoes.

Finishing up all the welding today. Had to put pockets in to clear the drain plugs in the tub.

Put a crossmember in to support the batteries inside the tongue box.

Put 3/4Ē led markers up front in case the super troopers of the DE state police want to hassle me.

Took all the brackets off, pulled all the harnesses off and hit the frame with a wire wheel. Tomorrow it gets por-15 and then everything goes together for real.

I bought a HF tongue box and it fits pretty good.

I got new lenses for the tail lights. They already have led bulbs in them and the convoy lights will be on a switch for fun.

I ordered a new parking brake handle but the surplus place sent me the wrong one. Itís going to get relocated on the inside passenger tongue rail with an additional bellcrank and custom rods and clevises.

Shock mounts cut from the original brackets and welded on. I didnít have good measurements so I looked at pictures and took a swag at it.

Cleaned, wire wheeled and degreased. Installed the last two rivnuts for the tongue box and then started painting.
