for the rear suspension, my shackle angle used to blow ass, and my leaf packs were way too stiff, so I had to do something about it.

I cut off the part of the shackle box that flares out -

drew out a flat pattern for my rear shackle box replacer thingy -

had my balding shop bitch cut it out for me -

had it formed up -

fit well -

drilled holes for plug welds -

kept the original bolt for extra strength? -

welded and ground -

made some tabs -

welded them on, boxed them in, and painted it -

much better shackle angle at ride height -

and my rear axle actually kinda flexed some!

all in all, I think I moved the bolt about 2" down and 3" or so (maybe 4"?) forward...

I also removed a leaf from each pack...

the ride is A LOT nicer...

That was the best shackle box thingy i have ever seen built by a bald bitch shop guy......Nce wrk

Id like to update this, and say that I had to remove a few leaves from the leafpack when I did this to keep the same ride height...

and in the first coupple runs, it became aparent that I needed to control pinion wrap a little better...

so I made a traction bar -
2 mounting points at the axle, shackle at the frame with a crossmember...

4 large RE joints, 1.75x.120 tube for the bottom, 1.25x.120 tube for the top...
3/16" for the axle side mount, 1.5x.120 for the frame side crossmember...

cut the floor for the shackle to stick through it (cuse I dont like sacraficing ground clearance, and dont have a back seat anyhow....)

Axle side mount - welded as close to the 3rd member as I was comfortable welding -
stp82798.jpg

something like 6 or 7 inches of vertical seperation there...

Of course, id need to update that too...

'cuse I broke it...

and Phil weldered it back together for me-

and Ill need to make another one with some slightly stronger toob...
Im thinkin 1.75x.188 wall might do the trick, with a re-enforcement plate where the stress is where the two tubes come together...

Are you saying that correcting your shackle angle via the shackle box caused more axle wrap? Or was it just you noticed you had axle wrap but it was unrelated?

he removed leafs to maintain the same ride heigth when he did the shackle box mod, this allowed axle wrap to be more apparent.
