8.25 diff center

Did they ever make an open 8.25 center?
As I want to fit a auto locker.
But mine is an LSD center 29.
What is the real reason why it needs to be an open style carrier to fit an Aussie or a Spartan?
Can parts be machined to make it possible?
Stuck in Australia where it is hard to source parts
 
Yes they did.
As a matter of fact I believe most 8.25's to be an open diff.
Mine is.
Wish you were closer. I kind of want to put a factory LSD in my '00.
I would source an open carrier just to trade you.
Think it would be better for on the road in the snow.
That combined with a Select A Trac instead of a Command Trac.
No idea if they ship internationally but.....

Chances are, as you stated it is through the roof, but if not as bad as we think maybe we can work something out.

I really want to find a complete rear in a 3.55. This way I could refresh it, do the disc brake swap, and swap it in my '00.

I am assuming when you said "But mine is an LSD center 29" you meant it is a 29 spline one. What year is it out of.

At the moment my other option seems to be this:

Thinking this is what I need. But by the time we figure in shipping with the swap thinking it would just not be worth it and I would be better off going this route if I can't find my complete diff.

You can have my 3.55 R&P for the cost of shipping
 
I swapped my open diff 8.25 with an ARB locker. Diff is just sitting in the garage. If anyone is interested. it too has the 3:55 gears, 29 spline.
 
Wow, big price diff (ha) between the open diff and the lsd when new!
Yeah mine has 29 spline, 3.55. And both looked near new when I took them out.
Mine is 97 xj extreme sport.
Being an export model, it may vary to US models.
So if I can find an open carrier, I will transfer them over.
When the spring washer let go, I was only just out the front of my drive way. Going slow into a turn when I could feel a lock up in the diff.
Thankfully it only scratched the inside of the carrier.
I think it had been cracked for a while.
But using the rattle gun to remove the wheels I think vibrated it out.
I wasn't going to remove the pinion after cleaning up the broken washer, but luckily I did as there was heaps of fragments flung in there.
With no available lsd clutch kits available, I had some 3mm stainless steel with holes punched out.
And had to make replica size shims.
Bit of messing around, but got it right I think to run as an open center.

That seems a good offer the ring and pinion!
I would take that up if in good condition..
 
You can get lunchbox lockers for the LSD differential too.

Buying the right locker may save you time and money.

I imported one and just got it. Open 8.25 with ring and pinion. $510 !!!
Freight was a killer!
But bloody fast!
Old Barn classics in Ohio, I think. They where great to deal with.
Spartan is on its way !
Now I just have to get around the annual vehicle inspection here.... not allowed to fit Autos!!!
Stupid hey.
