Flagstaff Dead Doe ldw2013

KRAKER

NAXJA Forum User
What a great weekend! Though it did start off rough. Loaded up the trailer Friday and heard a pretty loud pop and the steering became very unresponsive. So I headed to Fly N Hi to pickup a harness that Jeremy had in short order. He really saved my weekend plans. Thank you Jeremy.

While I was there I started poking around the shitbox and found this.

The whole frame would swing about an inch from centerline. There was no way I would wheel that

Luckily I have good friends. I headed over to Andrews work to pick him up for the weekend. TOld him what had happened and he responded "It's not like you're not at a full fabrication shop" So after he clocked out we backed the old Pig into the shop and he did his magic.

First thing he did was bend the torn metal back and burn it back together.

Then took a few measurements and got to work.

ended up plated the underside of the frame rail to repair the tear. Got it good enough to wheel the weekend.

So we're off for Flag! we get just passed Carefree Highway and I-17 and BOOM!

Nothing but stop and go in some horrible rain. The entire 150ish mile drive I'm thinking this is going to be a horrible weekend. So, 3ish hours and 8.5 mpg's later we make it to Flag.

After filling up the crawler he mudbogged all the way to camp. Didn't get any pics but it was a sloppy mess. Then for whatever freakish reason camp was at the worst left turn you could possibly take in muddy conditions in all of flagstaff. I thought I was going to dump my trailer at one point.

But we made!

No pics for the kiddos/wifes sakes of the night time shenanigans. But, Marshal's farts did smell like burned vaseline the next morning.

At some point Friday night we did this

So the weather is absolutely beautiful all day. Till it was time to wheel of course

After towing that long and far. None of us were about to not wheel.

Can't really tell in the pics. But, it was raining cats and dogs for this run.

Night time shenanigans ensued thereafter and a night run.

Next morning we ran Dead Doe. Very cool trail reminds me in ways a mix between Jack Hammer and Brutal.

Then at the last obstacle. I almost dumped it on the passenger side off a 5/4 foot fall.

This is when I burped it and dropped her back on all four. Then ripped the steering box off the frame rail and ended up here.

I ended up walking back out the trail and my buddies wife drove me back into town to buy new bolts. By the time I got back the guy had got everything ready for me to put back together. I ended up buying lunch for everyone. At the very end of Dead Doe is very pretty.

All in all I'd like to thank W4R, Mike, Seqouya, Marshal, Alex, Buck, and last but not least and defnitely the most key to a successful weekend Andrew. Thank you buddy, we wouldn't have made it if it weren't for you.

Looks like it was a good time! I need to get up there and run it myself and ripping the steering box off is fun isn’t it, I did the same thing a few years back but mine ripped the threads out of the box.

I wish. I went ahead and ordered a Durango box and dodge 1500 pump with surplus center ram/lines and fittings. Going to try and have it ready for the TM run.
