Hope this helps someone.

mine is a combination of stock xj's, and two leaves from a 3/4 ton dodge pickup. good for 3.5-4" lift, and rides better than stock.

I'm sure other Jeepers would love to have "rides better than stock" and "3.5-4" Lift."

I looked up 3/4 Ton Dodge Pickups and either the Packs were 48" or 60"s Eye to Eye along the Leaf Surface.

I see you used two leaves. If I may ask, what year did they come from and which two leaves?

Thanks.

Maybe, those Leaf Packs came from one of these?

Not that its my favorite - its the only one I have experience with.

Guy said they came off a '94 S10 2WD - cost me $40
There was a total of 6 leaves - the main, 4 mid leaves and the overload.

Here's a pic - XJ stock pack on top - S10 pack on bottom

HPNX0117.jpg

For my bastard pack I used an XJ main leaf, the S10 main leaf (cut off the eyes and redrilled the center hole), all of the remaining S10 leaves except the one above the overload. I kept the overload since I haul a lot of weight and pull a trailer.

I was looking for 3"-4" of lift and I got close to 4" over stock.

This is just Awesome for a 6 to 6.5" Ford F150 Bastard Pack!

I too agree on searching, but it gives me an excuse to show what I did (CHEAP!!!).

Built new mounts that lower the mounting point. They are also moved backward.
I am using full F150 leaf packs, + 1 leaf, 5 leaves total. Sits about 6.5" or so.(note: these leaves are longer than stock, so new mounts are required.)

The shackle angle is near perfect now.

BEFORE Flex shot
DSCF1005.jpg

AFTER Flex shot, it will droop even further once I relocate the shock mounts.
DSCF1078.jpg

I forgot to mention, my reason for doing this was shitty flex from my bastard pack. The problem is if you use an XJ main, it will be too short to get the proper shackle angle once "arched" by the other leaves. Mine was actually angled toward the front causing a rough ride and limited flex. Sure I could have just made a mount lower and forward, but I wanted to run a longer spring, also for ride and flex.
It rides better in the rear than the front, but I'm running short arms....for now (hopeful winter project)

i agree that the longer leaf swap was definitly worth the benefits. I used an MJ leaf.I am not positive on the length, I can measure an extra spring we have at the shop if needed. The centering pin is normally too far back (about 1.25"), and would require a new front mount unless you do what I did. Since my 8.25 has 3 holes in the perch, I just moved the axle forward, so the pin goes in the rear hole. I actually made shims with an offset hole as well, the pinion pointed way too high without. This turned out to be about perfect for stuffage. I decided to do this instead of building a new mount to allow me to move the axle back in the future to run a longer WB. Eventually I plan on caging it, chopping the rear quarters, swapping axles and running 36 or 37s.

I am not too sure what year, but Id guess 90s. We bought several packs for bastard packs and such, they were all in a pile out of the truck. They were 4 leaf packs with an overload. I ended up using 5 leaves (all f-150) and ditched the overload.

Semi-true, Boomerangs can help fit many spring packs since they can be flipped to allow the most movement in the "pocket" (stock shackles have little movement, any longer shackle will move more, giving more flex). The problem is they do absolutely NOTHING to correct actual shackle angle. The ONLY way to do that it my moving the mount, or using the correct length main leaf. Boomerangs are designed to fit a longer spring in most applications so the shackle can pivot backward farther in the pocket, not forward. Draw an imaginary line between the mounting bolts to figure the angle. A lot of control arms are bent for clearance, but it doesn't change the angle. If that were the case there would be no need for longarms and such.

With the shackle angle pointing to the front like /, the shackle has to move down and back as the spring compresses. Spring wanting to go up, shackle wanting to move down...so they fight each other.
With it angled to the rear like \, the shackle is free to pivot up and back so it doesn't fight the movement of the spring pack.
Straight up and down isn't ideal, mainly for droop, since the shackle will pull down and forward as the spring droops. The more you can utilize the "natural" range of the shackle, the better it will ride and flex.

Here is a side shot of mine flexed out to show the shackle movement in action. Notice the compressed spring pack is nearly flat with plenty of room for the shackle to move (limited by bumpstop), the drooped side shackle still has room to move forward, I can (and will) relocate the shock higher to allow it to droop further.

If they were all f150 leaves wouldnt it ride rougher cause of stiffer spring rates? And could you use the same concept to net 3.5" then add a 1.5" lift shackle to make 5" or so?

My pack was a full F-150 pack + 1 extra leaf, also f-150 (late 80's I think). Yes, the spring rate is higher than stock, but so is the front. You want a higher rate when you lift anyway. It matched my front Rusty's springs very well as far as spring rate goes, never felt unstable. Plus having the longer, flatter pack as well as a good shackle angle, helps a ton! I am saying this in past tense because it will probably all be coming out for a 4 link instead.

Just the relocation of the mount netted about 2", then I used the F-150 shackle, it gives about 3/4" over stock, and has a slight "boomerang". I wouldn't want a longer shackle than that with this setup, they hang down far enough already.

Here is a XJ / MJ 5.5 to 6" Bastard Pack:

picture.JPG

Here is a pic of the leafs I used and an assembled unit. They do ride rougher than stock. but not horrible.

stock XJ leaf
stock MJ upper leaf
stock MJ second leaf
then MJ third leaf
finally the XJ bottom leaf

netted right at 5.5 to 6"

Great Fab for running MJ Springs in an XJ!

I used a front spring hanger from a circle track car, since it was easy to get from a local race shop, Victory Circle. It's designed to mount vertically, which allows for anti-squat adjustment on a circle track car, but I mounted it horizontally. You can use anything to make the mount, but this made it easy. Since it's welded to the small protrusion from the original mount, it leaves room behind the new mount to put the nut on the end of the bolt. It was also easier on mine because I was able to weld one end to the rock rail mounts. Mine is moved forward 3" in the front, and I made a boomerang shackle to handle the 2" in the rear.

I found a set of pulled 2.5 in. springs and put in the top leaf with the eyes cut off. No clue what model or year haha

Anything 2.5 inches wide will work, so long as you get a match for the other side (and yeah I know that would seem self-explanatory).

Here are some Quotes with Photos for Leaf Spring Rear Mount Relocation.

It should look along the lines of this.

It will ride better too.

That pic is from my MJ with an empty tank of gas ane empty bed and no tailgate.

they will probably go back to straight up and down when your done. and be OK

ima do these, jes' custom corner's

Well as most of us all know, lifting an XJ comes with some unwanted side effects, one of those things typically being a sh*tty rear shackle angle(n). Well I finally got tired of the limited flex it would allow, seeing how I reallllllly could have used it in the past. We'll start with what my shackle angle originally looked like...

1001233gv5.jpg

Pretty huh!...Yeah pretty sh*tty :D

This is turn let the rear flex...well...not much at all. That caused some off camber situations like this to have a little bit more pucker factor than needed...

dscn0502vu5.jpg

So I set out to fix the problem. I sketched some things up and ran them by some people to get some input. I decided to build up what I had drawn. Well it took two tries to get it right...but the end result was worth it. Essentially these are what I came up with:

img0349gy4.jpg

I got them all mounted up (should have measured a couple more times, but they fit )...needless to say the shackles sits at almost exactly 45*. I had to cut the rear most holes off since the shackle at compression was wider than the opening, causing it to stop and the metal to bend. I took it a couple yards down the street to test it on an RTI ramp to see how much difference it made. Well, it certainly did to say the least. I can now droop a HELL of alot better, the tires stuff a little too well...but once great improvement has been to on-road ride. The "final" resting angle...

img0364kn9.jpg

A few gratuitos flex shots (yeah I know, poser shots...but my front is still broken due to Carnage Boulder where I was gonna test em...so no wheeling shots yet)

img0360nw3.jpg

Here you can see how it actually droops now (yes my shocks are disconnected...)

img0361if1.jpg

So all in all...a very time worthy project!

Here are two different Budget Build Write Ups with 2 to 2.25" Bastard Packs within.

The Home-Brew 2″ Budget Boost Page is an Excellent Write Up for doing a 2" Bastard Pack Lift. It has all the Info and Photos on the "How To" that anyone would ever need IMHO.

Here is the other Budget Build by Martin Verburgt with a solid 2.25"s of lift:

I am a bit leery of having an Overload Leaf. Have any of you had any Issues with one catching on anything?

Thanks,
